So my dad was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and I wanted to know the effects of it. Do any of you know much about it?
Ouch... That is why you eat healthy. I have once got a lecture on it and what I remember it can be dangerous or not so dangerous with an average of 60% survival rate. The survival rate can range from 5% to 90% depending on where the cancer is. He will probably get bowel problems and bleeding, may get loss of blood.
I'm not a doctor and I won't go around talking out of my ass about some miracle cure. But, simply put, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are fucking scams and you should look for alternative treatments. Again, I don't know if there are any actually work, but I don't see any harm in looking around. Then again, according to Onyxja your dad might get off fairly easy so don't take any unnecessary risks. Just remember that cancer results from a weak immune system; removing the tumor or trying to beat your body into submission with drugs won't cut it. The tumor is just a symptom and the last thing his body needs is to get hammered by more than it could have taken if he was perfectly healthy.
I don't know about the scam part, but what I can tell you is that both methods are pure poison. It might work for people (I've yet to see it work myself), though. "Alternative treatment" sounds quite vague, and more of a scam than anything. Anyway, all the best to your father, while I don't know about colon cancer specifically, I can't say past experiences have given me a very positive outlook on any type of cancer. ...I should stop talking now.
im sorry to hear that. a guy i work with had the same thing, he had to remove a few inches of intestines but he got better and there was cake. hope he gets better soon.
