    I like what Dan Carlin said on this subject. He spoke about that Washington became a sybol on that time period, meaning that he ate all the others up (Historical speaking).

    We simplify history and therefore some gets more attention and honors than they deserve.

    He never really wanted to be president. Also he hated the idea of political parties.

    He, for all intensive purposes, was the first American president. Under the Articles of Confederation all previous Presidents really could do was call Congress into session. It was either John Hancock or John Jay who was elected and never showed for office.
