Who, in your opinions, are the greatest military leaders since the 1890s?

I'm with Luddendorf, the Imperial German general during WW1 who developed a theory of total war.

    Rommel's greatest achievements:

    - Failing to conquer North Africa.

    - Building the Atlantic Wall that failed to stop D-Day.

Also, while I wouldn't say he was one of the greatest military leaders, Heinz Guderian was a smart cookie. Probably deserves a mention.

Father of Blitzkrieg & modern mechanized warfare deserves a mention. My favorite German general of all time.

I should somehow find a way to list a bunch of Swedish Generals just to piss of D3adtrap.

Even though I'm pretty sure after Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden everyone and everything from Sweden sucked.

I can't really think of a unique general that interested me besides the usual choice of say, Patton or Mao, Che or Montogomery.
So I looked around and I think General Vo Nguyen Giap as interesting, he served from World War 2 to the Vietman War. He wrote many books on military theory while serving for N. Vietnam.
He is still alive at 100.

Admiral Yamamoto, that guy had a good head on his shoulders. I also like Commanders Genda and Fuchida, both of which served under Yamamoto and had a close relationship with him. They're very cool, but not the greatest. Genda was involved in the planning of Pearl Harbor and Fuchida was commander of both strikes.

Bloody hell if somebody on this god green earth has thick skull its you ma boy

Patton because he's a brilliant strategist, no doubt about it. And a solid leader; no other western allied general could have made he's boys march 2 days with no rest from Saarbrücken to Arden, and fight victoriously.

Macarthur because he shined as a tactician and a strategist and least we forget, as a logistic expert. From first battles with the Japanese out numbered in the Philippines to island hoping to Korea. He always until 1944 had limited resources but he still kept advancing.

You should go to the museum of Swedish war heroes. It's completely empty.

Yeah you might like them, but they're not best generals of WW2 by any stretch of imagination not even speaking of best generals of modern times. I like Rokkosovsky, but he is not 'the best' general.

As sort of a side note, does anybody have an opinion on the greatest military leaders since WWII? Since the collapse of the Soviet Union?

    hell yea they are.
But anyway, did you know guderian got the idea (well the whole thing actually) of blitzkrieg from a English gentlemen called liddel hart. Too bad British army didn't listen to him but the Germans did.

@General Mosh why did post those?

@The Shaw Well you would have to look people who's ranks are, like major etc. To find anybody worth mentioning

Well of course there's is Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr. But I can't think of any other generals worth mentioning.
