For school I have to read Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell To Arms and so far I am enjoying it. I just finished reading F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises, also by Hemingway. If you've read the books comment and even if you haven't post what other books you thing are truly great.

Bilbo by JR. Tolkien and ofcourse The Shadow Over Innsmouth by HP. Lovecraft.

I haven't read too much in my years but I certainly enjoy reading and these are two amazing novels.

LOL read it outside of school man, it's a great book. And if you really want to experience pain try reading Hesse's Steppenwolfe. I consider myself an intelligent individual but that book just made my brain hurt

lol, try having my teacher dissect it, made it more like a romantic comedy. Didn't like it anyway, just my opinion.

That is ok. You will probably be required to read these books in high school.

I've only just recently read 1984. (Orwell peaked my interest after Animal Farm.)

Stephen King? Seriously? I could see maybe reading one of them as a modern author but not several of them. Terribly sorry but your district has some issues. I highly recommend using what's been posted on this thread to give you some direction on things to go and check out for yourself. And I'd like to add a couple more. The Martian Chronicles and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea are some must-read science fiction. And, for fun, go get yourself an unabridged collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales. And note how Disney took all the teeth out of them.

Yea reading stephen king is lame.... Do you guys have a library? Most of my reading in highschool I did on my own, but there is kind of a basic canon of literature that most highschools follow that I think is semi important for your cultural and intellectual development

I read the first Percy Jackson I didn't like it. Don't get me started on the movie adaptation.
