I bring this topic up because in my social studies class we are to design a medal/award for our personal hero. Problem is, I don't have a hero. This is going on society's basic definition of "hero" or "heroine". You might say i am a pessimist but, by using the most well known definition of hero. I haven't had someone that brings me back from something that would lead me to horrible consequences. So the issue is, what do I say to my teacher? "Sorry but I don't have a hero"?. What do you guys think of this.
I had to do a 2 pages text about the definition of "hero". Didn't enjoy it. But our definition of hero these days is that a hero is a person willing to save someone's life by doing what everybody wouldn't. You can say you don't have a hero because nobody did something that would impress you or didn't call your attention, but there were a lot of heroes that you could pick randomly. Edit: Maybe design a medal for those soldiers that actually go to war knowing they'll die, but they do it anyways.
No offence intended, but you make your SS class sound like its a farce. What kind of assignment is that? On the assignment: Just choose anybody. Or purposely chose somebody that will piss off your teacher or show the rediculous nature of that assignment. Or just go ahead and tell your teacher that you don't have a hero. [only choose the last option if you think that there is still enough time to do that and complete the assignment on time.] 'Hero' is reletive to the one defining them. You could have Hitler for a hero, or Roosevelt, its all reletive, and technically all correct.
You should make your Hero like Engles just to piss off the Teacher. It's a worthless assignment anyway, teacher deserves it.
Write it about your teacher. Kiss ass points for the win. But idk I would probably ignore the definition of hero completely and write it about somebody cool. OR! or! You could write the entire thing about yourself in a sarcastic tone. About how you bravely supplement yourself with essential vitamins and nutrients almost daily keeping yourself alive.
Well are you an American? If so then you can pick a random person that helped many people escape the buildings on 9/11.
I have no idea why you guys are complaining so much. This is an essay you can just bs in like 10 min.
But those people were heroes.[/quote:xp8geh32] I'm not saying they aren't, I mean that I am tired of people saying how bad it was, in that I FUCKING KNOW HOW BAD IT WAS. We don't need to do all of this over and over again even 10 years later.

Stop being a loser and say that Hitler is your hero. Make a Swastika Medal intertwined with a star of david.
lol. He should totally do that. Deny the Holocaust as well, say the Jews started World War 2. Absolute gold.
No it's pretty worthless simply because it makes you think in a 1-2-3 sort of way. Simple, standardized, and strict.
Using the loosest possible definition of hero, then yes they are hero's. It was a baby of a disaster, something the states had coming to them. I would also like to point out that firemen and the police are not hero's for doing their job. People like to worship them like they are doing something special and way beyond the call of duty every day but they are not. Same with SOLDIERS, oh my GOD I just can't stand the stance Americans take on their mofucking soldiers. Yes, you sent them into a foreign nation to kill people totally unjustifiably, hero. To me, a 'Hero' should be who can cure cancer while saving hundreds from burning buildings and making the blind see. Nothing superhuman happened with all the supposed hero's Americans like to talk about, just people with a pair of balls between their legs.
Being American myself I can say that I agree with you, somewhat, the only thing I see you being a bit detached about are the soldiers. They volunteer for what they do, but yes it is they're job, as well as that we had 9/11 coming anyway. But your definition of hero is a bit more like a comic book superhero/Jesus-esque character. Which is unrealistic in my opinion.
