So I just thought we could play a little game. Someone puts an image (painting, photograph, statue etc.) and the rest of the people have to try explain what it is. Who is the photographer in case it is a photo, who painted it in case it is a painting, what does it represent, when was it created and maybe some relevant details of the historical context involving the riddle. It´s called "Flute Concert with Frederick the Great in Sanssouci" obviously the man playing the flute is Frederick the Great of Prussia. It is an oil on canvas painted by Adolph von Menzel around 1850 so he didn´t inspire in an event he was present at since Frederick lived from 1712 to 1786. The artwork is 205 cm wide and 142 cm high. Sanssouci was the summer palace of Frederick in Postdam, near Berlin, it is considered the counterpart of Versailles. The room depicted was the music room of the king. He was the result of the Enlightment and one of the best examples of enlightened absolutism. He enjoyed playing the flute and compossed several pieces for this instrument. i have no idea about that Times pic, but i like the idea with this thread. That could be a modern pic looking back at the war, looks like those soldiers are Australians or New Zealander going to war. Could be either WW1 or WW2, although to me at first glance it looks more like WW1.
Yeah they're not Aussie/ANZAC hats, looks North-American so I think as mentioned before they're Canadian? (mountie hats lol)
This is actually from the Crimean war, and I believe those are British troops. The Crimean war was the first to be photographed, and to be covered by correspondents. I don't know who took the picture though.

Might I hazard a guess that picture is in Asia, due to the apparent physique of the men being shot. Some sort of forced march as the word promena means walked in certain languages. The shooters are holding rifles that seem to be pre-1918. That is all I can guess. I might suggest Indochina because of the fucking stupid hats that the French wore. That is probably very wrong. Seeing as how my knowledge of history is pretty appauling.
Looks like it's on the savannah or the steppe around the turn of the century, so I'm guessing it's either to do with the Trans-Siberian railway, Uganda Railway, or the Cape to Cairo.

That looks like either the French or Austrian court, by the clothing. I might try and say that the man on the floor has been banished/exiled, which is why he's removing his noble clothing.
that first picture riddle you posted and nobody could solve were canadian soldiers marching off to world war II (although it could be wwI) and the little girl is saying goodby to her dad and the it became a propaganda picture etc... about the latest riddle, something of the man lying on the ground reminds me of eastern-europe/cossacks. So id say something to do with either the russian court expelling a cossack or maybe the french court expelling a pole.
somewhat close, the picture is the Polish Royal court when/ straight after the first partition of Poland took place. Im not sure who the man on the ground is though.
