At first I thought the headline was just over-the-top. Then I realized that's what the bill actually is.

Should religious "morality" of the few triumph over the rights of many? Are the unborn more valuable than fully-grown adults with responsibilities, loved ones, careers, etc? This makes me sick. Not because it'll become law (cause it won't) but because there are politicians seriously backing this and the only thing stopping them is one election.

I'll pass on the abortion debate for the time being...

On the hospital thing... what in the name of all that is good and just happened to 'do no harm'?!
Maybe I am misinterpreting the hippocratic oath, but...

What doctor goes into the public care domain to be discriminatory?!
They have personal misgrievings? Fine. Declare your position so the women can be taken where they will recieve the necessary care to LIVE.

This is absolutely fucking disgusting and full to the brim with stupidity... What if neither can be saved? Just let the mother die anyways? That doesn't sound very pro life to me. So it's ok to kill the mother (they are by letting her die) but not the baby? -_-

It won't pass the Senate, and if it does, Obama will veto it, and the Republicans won't be able to get the two-thirds.

But yeah, this is actually horrifying to think about.

So what if a woman was raped? So let's say an abortion could save her life during labor, she should not only be forced to carry and give birth to it but she should also be forced to die for this baby when there was something they could do?

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not", nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given to me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will remember that I remain a member of society with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

You many parts of the Hippocratic Oath does this violate?

It still has to pass the Senate, chill. Stuff like this happens all the time and ya know what? It never happens, because it won't pass both the House and the Senate. It is a problem that people get so worked up over something that still has to go through two more "gates" (i guess you would call them) before becoming law. (by the way, the more liberal party controls those)

I've grown to expect acts of horrific and disgusting lunacy committed by the right. But this took me by surprise. No self respecting woman could vote Republican after this.

@Leon - It looks like it will be veto'd now. But it gives us all a nice insight as to what America will be like, should the Republicans win the next, or any future election.

Fucking this. I KNOW it will not pass. That doesn't make me any less disgusted and angry that people out there are stupid and malicious enough to support something like this.

I know there's no way this'll end up being a law, and that there's usually a bunch of crazy bills that pass the House that never make it to law, but the fact that this was even considered AND got passed in the House is still unbelievable.

    Religious extremism = the right

    Whatever bro.

Anyway, this won't pass, so no worries. It's no shocker that the Republicans are being socially conservative.

The idea of the anti-abortion crowd is punitive action against those who have a baby on accident, nobody is switching party lines over this.

Socially conservative doesn't equal economically conservative. I really hope your not socially conservative. That's pretty much stupidities lead in.

True, but I'm not really shocked. It's just a demonstration of how the government should have absolutely no had in social issues at all. The government shouldn't be able to to tell you who you can marry, how many people you can marry, what you put in your body, or what you take out.
