What are some military conflicts that most people haven't heard about before, or were simply pushed aside and forgotten about in time?

My pick has to go for the War of the Triple Alliance. It was fought around the time of the American Civil War, when little Paraguay, ruled by its dictator Francisco Solano López, declared war on far bigger Brazil and Argentina, with Uruguay joining in later. This was a titanic war for South America. It virtually destroyed Paraguay. It lost 60-70% of its entire population, where maybe less than 30,000 males were left alive in the entire country afterwards.

I think the war's fairly well known in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, but it's virtually unknown around the world. I just can't get over that idea...losing 70% of your entire country's population to a suicidal war. And, 150 years later, the whole idea that this conflict ever took place only arrived to me a few weeks ago.

Any other ones we can think of?

Oh yeah, pitty little Paraguay wanting a piece of the ocean, too bad Brazil was so strong, General Osório and General Caxias were the ones that basically won the war.

Also this was the biggest ever war fought in Latin America.

Damn, I was gonna say that.

Whenever we talk about the Russian revolution, we cite World War One even though we don't directly say it, because if you don't know, losses in world war one on the eastern front was a huge reason to bring down Tsarism and the Monarchy as a whole.

Whenever we talk about Lenin, Kalinin, Molotov, ect. these men may all apply in a way if you think about it.

The first thing that came to my mind was the War of Spanish Succession, as Mayor said, but The Seven Year's war was pretty important as well as the War of Austrian Succession. The Phillipine-American War wasn't so much huge as it was just horrid, and most people haven't heard of it.

Well, when we're talking about wars in the 19th century, they're not often spoken of or shown in documentaries on basic cable all the way up to satellite TV, they have to be taught if anything in a history class in school.

The servile wars where really important. American-Spanish war is also very forgotten. An Lushan Rebellion was also very bad but forgotten.

Russian civil war - While some what known in some circles, while some wars are less known than this, this is my pick because of the insane scale of the war and the inpact on the world history.

    Seconded.

And there are a ton of long-forgotten Asian-Theatre wars.
There might be some bias in the teaching selections, which is why nobody hears of these wars.
