Is being ignorant of something enough to get baned?

If you break the rules and claim ignorance of the rules it will not be an acceptable excuse. Ignorance is not an offence, but it will not get you out of trouble.

You don't see to understand this. This is Stalins Forum. He has the ability, and right to do whatever he so chooses, short of breaking real laws. If he wants to ban everybody whose name starts with his least favorite letter of the alphabet, he can do that. If he wants to ban anybody because because they annoyed him, he can do that. And you can't complain. End of story, and no debate about that.

This is true. The only possible thing that anyone could do about it would be to leave and not support the forum anymore. But he can do whatever he wants.

To be honest, it is josefvstalin.com.
On the other hand, he's sort of breaking his own ideals of having a forum free for (almost) all idea's.

Canada (and this forum) aren't known as havens for completely free speech. Hate speech/racism/etc. is criminal in Canada and can be warnable on the forums. Though obviously Stalin can bypass the rules.

Because violating your own laws has worked out for so many people in the past?

It's a bad empowerment that is perfectly reasonable for Stalin to have.

Pretty sure that's the part where he's "understanding" it...

Did you read what I said?

I said it was a bad idea, but that Stalin has every right to the power.

I'm pretty sure he said it for effect. He wont actually ban people for being ignorant. But I could be wrong.

A forum with many intelligent people banning someone because they are seen as ignorant....

It depends if that ignorance leads to blatant racism that the user does not apologise for/learn from and continues being racist after a warning. So only racism, really.
Most examples of ignorance on this forum usually lead into relatively civil and interesting debates/discussion. Sometimes the ignorant person learns a thing or two.

See that's the thing, whenever I look at those 'debates' I only see 2 sides shouting at eachother and when all's said and one I don't get the feeling anyone is any wiser...

    Define ignorance and define racism.

He actually meant it. That was one of the reasons he locked the thread.

Look at the European Imperialism thread and you'll know what he means

Racism isn't always based on ignorance, and while I think it is incorrect, it's a valid opinion.

So, in my locked thread Stalin says that he can ban anyone regardless of warnings or rule. ( this seems to me like a tad bit of power abuse)
