I have been thinking and came to the conclusion that if you can observe the political, economic and social impacts of a period of time or of an event then it shouldn't be considered history. This pretty much eliminates the 20th century as being labeled as history.

    What are your opinions?

The history channel told me that history is made every day. Mostly by pawn shops and glorified garbage men.

Your argument should be defending the 20th century as history...

So every single event that has ever happened isn't history?

Sure it is; day before yesterday I did an essay involving an extract from Livy's History of Rome, (a book so long that many copies were lost in the middle ages because people just couldn't get through all of it), which went up to about 9BC. Livy was born c. 59BC.

My opinion is that if someone is alive who remembers it, it is still recent history. But everything that has happened in the world up until now is history.

History is history. I guess there should be no distinction.

remember kids, the fact that the USA exists, the Cold War is over, Genghis Khan's DNA is in approximately 2% of the world's population, Napoleon conquered almost all of Europe, Man discovered fire, the US had a civil war, Canada gained independence, Germany united into a country, the Roman Empire evolved technology and advanced western civilization, Japan rapidly industrialized, Mexico is an independent country, and that Switzerland took all of the Holy Roman Empire on at once and won - That's not History, that's Science!

Textbook history should go up to at least 1970. Probably up to 1980. Other than that it's recent history. Anything in black and white can't really be called recent.

I actually quite like Pawn Stars. I think it gets people who don't want to watch documentaries, more knowledge on history. I mean every time somebody brings in soemthing, they give you a history lesson on it.

At least the original pawn stars deals with mostly historical items. The worst though is shit like Ax men and that show about cat fishing. I've chopped plenty of wood in my life and trust me it wasnt worthy of a reality show.
