I don't think its a terribly big deal, but I do think that the government should never have the right to infringe upon religious expression (even though I am an atheist). I hate to be the slippery slope argument guy, but what's next? Banning crosses and stars of David because of their religious implications? If they required for your portrait to include your hair on state ID's that's a totally separate issue (and entirely valid), but just for the oath taking is some sort of obscene loyalty test; do you love Canada more, or your religion? Because you're going to have to decide.
