In this thread we discuss modern world conflicts other than Libya and preferably not Afghanistan or Iraq.
In Recent news, Turkish Military Forces have launched a counter offensive against the Kurdish Insurgents after recent attacks on Turkish stuff; Yemen's capital city has erupted into battle as Al-Qaeda aligned rebels attempt to overthrow the U.S. backed authoritarian regime; Bahraini ( is that the right word?) protests are on the verge of turning into an open rebellion; Syrian opposition forces are beginning to organize and model themselves after the Libyan NTC in after several meetings between leaders in Turkey, and are even beginning to organize an army; more attention is being drawn to the 40 year old continued Maoist rebellion in India; and although South Sudan has attained independence, a proxy war rages along the border; and even if it has been quiet in the news lately, the Mexican Drug War rages on. My question to you is, which one shall we waste our time discussing now? Feel free to add to the list of ongoing conflicts.

Let's go onto the Syrian War as that'll be the most interesting, probably.

I doubt Libya will be getting boring anytime soon.
There's just so much stuff from the killing of Gaddafi, to the withdrawal of UN forces, whether or not another feud erupts, that Gaddafi's most prominent son is still alive and seeking revenge, etc. I don't see the Libyan issue, nor the thread dying off anytime soon.

That doesn't mean that it isn't happening. Have you seen the Libya thread? Sure it's kinda wrong how war is but entertainment to us westerners, but the hell with it.

We should talk about Iran and the upcoming war with America/NATO/Israel/Saudi Arabia.

That would be a quick war. But I severely doubt that's going to happen.

If it did though, Israel could handle it by itself. No need for America to step in.

Here comes the stereotypical stance again, also i'm not a British Anarchist. I know the regime is crazy and all that, but haven't you notice preparations of war from the United States and it's allies? There's a lot of activity in the Persian Gulf at the moment, a few US battleships just hanging around until the time comes for war. There's also been aircraft deployment in the region too, by the United States, in fact same aircraft's that were involved during the shock and awe in the capital of Iraq (Baghdad). And of course the news about the Saudi Arabian ambassador getting blown up by "Iranian terrorists". Not to forget that the US military has got Iran completely surrounded in territory, like all the countries bordering Iran have got US presence in all those bordering countries.

I think there are US ships in the Persian Gulf all the time, and if we were getting ready for the shit to go down, we wouldn't be bringing battleships.

What do you mean you wouldn't be bringing battleships?

I think a war with Iran is inevitable, or it will come later. Nonetheless, you guys will be going to war with Iran in the future.

Well, pro tip... The US navy doesn't have any commissioned battleships anymore...

I don't really see a war with Iran as inevitable or preferable. Israel is far more likely to wage war with Iran, and there isn't much of a reason to believe we would get involved. As Matt mentioned Israel could defeat Iran without our help, and most likely pretty rapidly.

I demand the return the romanticized view of war that was prevalent before WWI, who's with me!

Let me see now, oil reserves, regime change or strengthening Israel's dominance in the region. Possibly your right, Israel is far more likely to wage war with Iran than the United States, or co-operation.
