I am all for immigrants coming into the US legally ( Including the cuban refugees. ) We were all immigrants once and my family proably would have been slaughtered back East if we didnt immigrate here.

Anyhow what are your stands on this?

Shouldn't this belong in the political forum?
And personally I'm more of an open border guy myself.

If you come here legally fine. Just dont come illegally. I think we need to extend the visas though.

I, personally, think that only people who could be considered assets to the United States or refugees should be allowed to immigrate because soon we will be facing some overpopulation issues.

I think that immigration should be made a little easier.

If you come here legally I'm fine with it. Also immigration could be made a little easier.

What about an open border policy (meaning no illegal immigration), why do we have a need to keep anyone out?

At the very least we need to regulate the passage of individuals from the rest of the world into our own. I mean, if some dude has super cholerAIDS or something, we need to be able to deny them entry to the country.

I guess I forgot to clarify (or rather just plane mispoke, as I don't know how you could construe "completely open" to mean "with restrictions) that an open border policy would still attempt to screen against criminals, terrorists, diseased, etc

Well as other people have stated you do have to screen for criminals, diseases, and terrorists, but I see now that you clarifed what you meant by "open border policy".

So you mean that we ought to just get rid of immigration quotas or something?

Well we ought to just let anybody through so long as they aren't a threat.

I believe that if you don't pose a threat to the security or health of this nation, you should be allowed to move here

Personally, since the Chinese Exclusion Act, I'm not a big fan of US immagration policy.

Yeah. Other nations do that. Do you see people clamboring to go there?
And what if you just want to move, but you don't have alot of education? Tough luck, huh?
And overpopulation is pretty far off for the US at the moment. Obviously you have never been to the Dakotas.

Then there's the thought that if there weren't jobs / enough social infrastructure to support the immigrants, they'd be either staying in their home countries, or moving to a nation that could support them...

I don't really know if you are supporting my statement or against it or trying to disprove it or what...

In any case, here is some food for thought: immagration can cause a bigger demand for products.

It supports it. Think about it, they're coming here because there's a demand for them. If there wasn't a demand, or if conditions were poor, they would go someplace better. Overpopulation would only be temporary because people would not only stop coming here but they would also start leaving and going to less populous places.
