No women will represent Saudi Arabia at the London Olympics.
The Arab kingdom has been accused of 'breaking the spirit of the Olympics' by opting to bring an all-male team to the games in four months' time.
The Saudis have come under criticism in the past for its treatment of women, including the closure of private women's gyms and banning them from driving.
Christoph Wilcke of Human Rights Watch said: '"No women allowed" is the kingdom's message to Saudi women and girls who want to play sports.
'The fact that women and girls cannot train to compete clearly violates the Olympic Charter's pledge to equality and gives the Olympic movement itself a black eye,'
Afghanistan was excluded from the 2000 Olympics after the Taliban government banned women from competing.
Should Saudi Arabia therefore be banned?

Even if they would say it's becouse of their culture ,no they should be kept out becouse if they don't commit themselves to the Olympic pledge they took, they should not participate in it.

They should be banned. This is absolutely disgusting and the people running that country are nothing but completely ignorant and backwards sexist shit-sacks.

Whatever. You guys didn't exactly leap from your chairs to save the world when Rwanda started committing mass genocide, why should you care for a few sexist acts from a loyal ally?

Its not like we are declaring war on them or anything. Is it really that hard to allow women to participate in the olympics which you agreed to let your women participate in?

And what the fuck does that have to do with the Olympics? This thread is about whether the Saudis should be banned from the Olympics or not. Read the thread again and think about your post because it doesn't make any sense. We should most certainly care.

Who's 'you guys?' It's the IOC who makes the decisions not the hosting country, and the Olympics took place a year after that war ended. So your comparison isn't really relevant.

They should be banned, if they can't fallow the Olympic pledge and allow women to play they shouldn't be aloud to participate in the games.

Of course, it just really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. And it's ridiculous that people are more upset about some minor insult against women rather than some of the complete atrocities they let get by.

Again, it really doesn't matter. Any amount of effort wasted on this issue would be better directed on things that did matter. Hell, there's an election coming up in America that will probably decide the fate of the Modern World, you should be a lot more concerned on that.

So women's rights don't matter? Okay. I fail to see how you can't be concerned about an election and still think the Olympics should ban them from participating. We aren't all focused on one issue, it's entirely possible to focus on more than one.

So you aren't concerned that a nation is openly discriminating against half its population? And frankly, I really couldn't care less about an election in a foreign country on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

As compared to where else? Half the world openly discriminates against women. Including parts of our modern world.
You really should care more. The world would be a widely different place if McCain was elected in 2008 or if Bush wasn't elected in 2000/2004.

Half the world doesn't ban their women from competing at the Olympics.

No, the middle east would be a widely different place.

Just because Saudi Arabia is the only nation acting externally to exert their sexism doesn't mean they aren't the only ones who believe it.
That seems short-sighted. Practically everything could be different. I mean think about it, there may not have been such a bad Credit Crunch, or a far worse one. And then everything gets fucked up. Maybe the Euro Zone could've been flourishing as it was a decade ago? And by extension, the UK? In globalization, one nation effects all the others and America is a big fish in a small pond.

Well, I'm not sure about IOC policy on thought-crimes.

In that case I should also pay more attention to the upcoming Senegalese elections: butterfly effect and all that.

Jesus, that was quick. From the Olympics to small ponds in a matter of posts. It normally takes more than 2 pages. Karakoran is being exceptionally autismal recently.

Saudi Arabia should be banned from participating in the Olympics if they aren't prepared to endorse gender equality. Simple as that. Their nation's status does not matter when it comes to the Olympics, either they comply or they just don't get to participate. They are not soiling the Olympics with their ridiculous Muslim traditions. I suggest that they are just issued a ban with no further comment until improvements are made.
