Generaly people think schooling and education is one thing. But i read a quote which got me thinking weather it really is, think about it, theyr actualy two different thing in some ways. This is the quote i read which got me thinkingL: I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. Mark Twain US humorist, novelist, short story author, & wit (1835 - 1910) So i went with this matter to my Philosophy profesor and we had a long discusion, in fact this became the topic of two class discusions, now were doing a sort of project research on it. any way i thought this would be the right place to make a poll to see what some random people think.
While I agree with the sentiment, I'm never going to learn about the political influences of James Madison from day to day interactions with my fellow man, so I would say there is a good deal of education going on in both places.
Thats the view i seem to have, without schooling i wouldnt know many things, yet it is only a small contributer tp my education compared to life experiencees, things i learn myself et cetera.
Without my schooling , I wouldn't know a lot of useless info I'll never need, but tbh, they fail to teach even much of that.
My computer situation isn't the best atm. Let me put it this way, I am using one now, but that was typed without a keyboard.
Well, schooling is a way and a part of my life education. It may not be the same thing but it's definitely not completely separated.
Schooling is responsible for my desire to learn. Since then I've been busy educating myself and undoing the misinformation taught to me in school.
well if you made it up its genius man, do you mind if i quote it in one of my philosophy papers for school.
Depends entirely on what "education" means. It could mean all learning, it could be learning about everything and anything relevant, it could only be the things relevant to your life in particular, and it could only be what is irrelevant in your life but makes you smarter. That's the point Mark Twain was making- he was separating the generally accepted definition of education and his own.
Schools teaches me things I would not normally learn on my own, such as levels of Mathematics. However, I find that self-education and discussion also teachs me many things I would not have learned at school. It is a combination of these two things that will lead to a correct education, as only one or the other would be insatisfactory.
