Yes. Although by that same logic tons of nations should be independent like the Basque Country, Hawaii, and Kurdistan.

Really though it's a matter of realism and how it should be made independent.

Eh. They're probably not going to see a big change in policy whichever way the ball rolls, though on principle I'd say yes. And in reality it would be nice to limit China's influence in East Asia even more.

They should be independent. And in the modern day I don't see how Hawaii fits into this discussion. 20-30 years ago Hawaii would fit into this discussion but now..meh

Ya, finding examples was kind of hard because after the Cold War anyone with a flag got independence. For instance, Belarus.

I'm sure they will declare independence during China's war with India some time in the future. Only to be annexed again when China absolutely obliterates India.

Tibet has been part of China for thousands of years. The o ly recent times where it was Tibet has been when it was under British rule where they were treated as literal slaves, and the very short period when the PRC formed. They have less legitimacy to independence than Native Americans do.

Anyone who wants to be independent has legitimacy to independence.

I wish that could be true, but unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world. It is your right to chose to exclude yourself from a government.

Tibet shouldn't be independent. When they were still existent they were a very oppressive government. is it any better under China? i don't know but to me the only legitimate reason people have for Tibet being independent is to weaken China

Lets rephrase that- Any majority group of people in a region that want to be independent should be allowed to be if they have a decent reason

I don't know what the Tibetan people want, so I won't speak for them, but they certainly have legitimacy. A government is not a country. Past actions of the Tibetan government do nothing to make their country illegitimate.

Everyone seems forgets the Dalai Lama was a very oppressive slave owner. I guess it is just more convenient to hate on a nation like China that Subsidizes Tibet and builds its infrastructure.

If the TIbetan people don't like them than they should not HAVE to be a part of China. Just like South Sudan does not have to be a part of North Sudan

I hate the Dalai Lama as well as the current Chinese government, but I'm sure it won't stop you from making bullshit assumptions.

    1. He was a very large slave owner, not servants, slaves.
    2. He incites an illegitimate government.
    3. He is just a pawn to attack China.

    Need I go on?
