The Crusades

I can't seem to find a thread for it yet, and yes I did use Search. All I found was people who talked about them briefly in a different thread.
So here's a Crusades thread.

To sum up my beliefs on the Crusades, it is summed up well with this video:

let me just say: the Northern Crusades were amazing and successful go figure.

i wonder if armies actually took the time to organize themselves so they would look like a cross when they marched... anyway i think the crusades were an especially stupid series of wars

They might've once or twice. I don't even think they had solid formations a lot of the time though.

They were stupid for the most part, especially the third crusade which is the one I know most about. Christians weren't being denied pilgrimage to Jerusalem, so the excuse was that they were fighting dirty Mooslims. Then Saladin kicked their self-righteous ass.

I am a catholic but when i learn about the crusades I always felt the Muslims were in the right.

Nobody was in right during the crusades. The catholics mostly did it for land and gold and so the muslims did. It was war. Its the same thing today with the U.S. wandering around in the middle east

The muslims were defending their land how was that not Justified?

The 4th crusade was ridiculous

Well defending their own land is justified, but killing pilgrims isnt

Well if you want to get technical, that land belonged to the eastern roman empire before the muslims came so it was only their land through conquest, the same way it would have been christian land through conquest had the crusades been more succsesful.

the crusades were absolutely pointless. I know kali doesnt wanna hear this but its just more proof how corrupt the church was at the time

Because they were defending stolen land, same as the crusaders.

But they (the crusades) started because the muslim turks were attacking christians (read byzantines), so they asked help from the Pope and there you go.

Ah yes The Crusades just one big religious fuck up of a dumb ass war fighting for some god that may or may not exist is stupid.

God is not the reason for the war, just the excuse, as I already stated the reason was that the Roman catholics were helping the byzantines, the other crusades were just to reclaim the old territory back, just like Jihads were the same, to claim their territory back. As somedy else stated the Holy places were byzantine owned, and even though that's the homeland of the jews, the christians have as much right to the land as the muslims had.

Or they could have just made the holy land a single nation so that it was fair and not anti-muslin or anti-christin.
