In all of the 3 paradox games i have seriously played which would be victoria, victoria 2 and europa universalis 3 france has always been over powered. In all three they always have a ridiculus amount of manpower and in victoria two they seem to research tech faster, they always have railroads faster. has anyone else noticed this because it really pisses me off
Well, up until the First World War, wasn't France one of the major powers in the world in the first place?
Yes. At least until the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71), they were the major power in Continental Western Europe.
Meh, I was still pretty close, only off 43 years or so...I really need to brush up my history from time to time...
Are you entirely sure about EU3? Because I have only played 1 game in which France was an actual major power, and even then it was fragile since they had 44% inflation for a LONG time, and in fact only lost it when they collapsed after I beat them severely in a war. In all other games besides that, either Burgundy or England took most of France over, with Castille/Aragon grabbing land near their border sometimes.
Well, usually in my games, France takes modern day France and Belgium, and adds Aragon to that most of the time. They tend to stop most conquests after that, but they're nearly always a major power.
In the earlier versions of EU3, France was an absolute nightmare, but I find with the Divine Wind add-on they tend not to dominate so much. Especially if you disable historical lucky nations.
I often find France not really overpowered in Victoria 2. I often find it easy to crush their armies as the NGF in my bid for a united Germany. Frankly, GB is overpowered in Victoria 2 with its massive industry and brigades due to British India. Hopefully 1.3 will fix this and stop GB from utilizing British India to its advantage.
I think JosefVStalin meant that the UK had economic hyperpower status comparable to the US today. To portray them as anything but the most powerful empire in the world in Vicky II would be grossly historically inaccurate.
In EU3 France always has huge amounts of manpower. They don't generally go out conquering but if you get warned or you want to go to war with one of there allies your screwed
Very true. I'm playing a game as France now, and their forcelimits and manpower are absolutely massive. And usually in my games, they get Aragon and some Italian provinces, and that's about it.
Historically that's what they did. But in game it is so annoying when GB declares a war of containment on you for no reason.
I find this so true as well. In my first game of EU3, I completely overlooked the options and forgot to set it to an easier difficulty, yet I was having not too hard a time. I had a ton of MP and forcelimits, and being the HRE increased them even more. My wars were mainly with the Ottomans, slowly conquering their provinces in Greece, Turkey, and Georgia. Also, I control almost all of Venice so there is this thin strip of French Territory connecting the home land to Greece, which looks really weird geographically. Haven't finished that game, but I will someday. Only problem I had with that game was that I didn't know what I was doin with my economy and now I have like 40% inflation.
From my current game as Vijayangar (Screenshot taken as The Hansa): France, 1436 The game is incredibly dynamic; what will typically make France a strong power is if you leave the Lucky Nations setting on Historical. I usually turn it off or to random, unless I'm planning on a historical game. EDIT: Sorry for huge image!
That's true - if Burgundy and the HRE pile up on France, it can fall very quickly. In my games, this hasn't happened too much (France usually expands into Aragon and GB is the one that falls apart all the time), but it could happen any time.
