The USE (United states of Europe) was the idea that the country's of Europe form together. Winston Churchill was one of the few leaders to agree with the idea. Napoleon also dreamed of a unified Europe (under different circumstances). People still like the idea of the USE today. I would like to know your opinions on the matter.
i think that the USE would most likely never happen. The European Union is the closest to unification that Europe will get for the foreseeable future. This is one of those "what if?" things in my opinion. it would be nice to see a USE in a game like hearts of iron 2 or victoria 2, but as far as real world functionality, i seriously doubt it would ever come to fruition.
Well I'm not so sure it's a "what if" scenario. There is a reasonably large community that support this movement.
Remember, Europe was the birthplace of Modern Nationalism, and Imperialism. There are many Nationalists in each country in Europe,Most of whom hold to thousand-year-plus Nationalistic Beliefs. Eg: Many English Nationalists still hate the french, Scottish nationalists hate the English, French Nationalists hate the English and the Germans, German Nationalists hate Russians, French, English, Dutch/Flemish, and etc. Although these are not (In most cases) the majority, these beliefs are popular enough to prevent any such any from happening.
Along with the let's see now North American and Scandinavian unification possible what is the chance of them working compared to an independent European super state?
Europeans are too nationalistic too become a U.S.E. Also aren't Europeans known for being very independent?
And after his fall came the rise of German nationalism which lead to the unification of Germany in 1871...
Well the USE wouldnt really come together in just few years. I say it would take 100 years give or take. But the also the possibility of it coming true is very thin. There are some many strong nationalistic reasons and ways of doing things,which many of these are annoyed or even disgusted by other nations. Too liberal,too strict or conservative ways of doing things. These are the things what have formed the nations in Europe, they have assimmilated together into bigger nations. Reasons might be same race or ethnic base,religion and language were big factors. The USE(if it would real) is probably going to a militaristic based goverment run nation, with regional parties or idealistic parties.
No we need to turn Small nationalism into European nationalism. Nationalism probaly wont go away until we start finding other sentient species; until then it just has to be manipulated to its best use.
It is going to be tough to find these other sentient species, since we have inner-planetary conflicts.
