For those who do not know there are going to be elections in Alberta and a party that might win it is the rather insane Wildrose Party. They are necessarily rednecks and are very close to U.S. Republicans. Alberta is a rather backwards province that seems to think it is better than everyone else. I like to compare Alberta to Texas for this very reason, they are politically stubborn conservatives. The fact that a party like this could win an election is freighting. This is one reason why I hate the oil industry it just makes Alberta feel more important than it really is. They also seem to be the most Americanized of all the provinces aswell which is a problem.

Alberta=Texas. Alberta should be sold to the US. They'd fit right in!

Lol. At least it's just a provincial election, it could be worst.

Seems like a good thing to me.

No offense, but they have every right to win if the people agree with them.

I really can't find a difference besides temperature in which Alberta is literally cooler than Texas.

I have heard it called the Texas of Canada, and therefor I already love it. The party is more foreign to me.

No Alberta is a pretty gun friendly province and is one of the main reasons Harper wanted to get rid of the gun registry.

Don't worry about the comparison between Alberta and Texas, I live there (Alberta) and I make the same comparison all the time. The elitism is mostly due to the fact that the oilsands are the "engine" (or at least the primary one) of the economy. Everyone here seems to hate the Liberals with an almost inhuman passion for some reason, and every time I ask why they hate the Liberals they look at me as if I've asked why Adolf Hitler was such a bad guy. To me they (the Liberals) don't seem that bad, they've dusted themselves of nicely after getting their asses handed to them in my opinion. I guess that makes me the one sane person in the whole damn province.

On the topic, the Wildrose Party has support mainly in the southern have of the province (why does the south always pick the dumb party?). Everyone I've talked to has low opinions of the Wildrose Party, most notably, me.

Then why are they getting such high poll numbers which make it look like they can actually win?
