Post your video game ideas here. I’m sure many of you guys have your own game ideas, I certainly do. Most of the ideas that I have are realistic simulation type games, typically a RPG with a very realistic combat system, whether that be with swords or guns. I also have a sort of civ building game idea that I’ve been thinking about lately, I’ve even written down some of the features of the game which I usually don’t do, I will post it here if any of you are interested. It’s not much, but it's not like I'm going to waste my time developing a complete game design document when I know the game will never actually be created. I placed it in this spoiler box due to it's size. [spoiler:16zxnmkp]I call the game Tribal Empires. You start as a small band of hunter gatherers and you slowly work your way up until you are a major imperial power. It’s largely inspired by the Civilization games, but it’s also quite different. One of the main focuses of the game would be your tribe’s culture, which is developed based on choices you make, but also on the environment and circumstances your tribe experiences. Your tribe’s culture would affect the way they look, the way they fight, and just generally the way they develop as a civilization. Your civilization would also be affected by neighboring tribes, just as neighboring tribes would be affected by your tribe. As you advance through the 4 Periods (Paleolithic, Settlement, Archaic, and Classical ) the game map would sort of zoom out. For example, I imagine the Paleolithic Period being on the same kind of scale as an Age of Empires game, where you can control each individual unit. Then I imagine the Settlement period as being like a city building sim, maybe like a Tropico 3 type of thing, where you don’t directly control any of the units (except for the tribe leader and the military). The Archaic period would look kind of like the Civ 5 game, where you can manage your city while also expanding your civilization through conquest or colonization. The Classical Period probably would also look similar to the Civ 5 map, except more zoomed out as you expand your empire. All along there would be different tribes at different stages of development, some may never even completely leave the Paleolithic Period, they might become the nomadic barbarians that raid your borders. Basically the point of the game would be to simulate the development of human culture and civilization, from the Paleolithic to sort of the Late Antiquity period. For example, you could hypothetically have your tribe start in central Italy, on the banks of the Tiber River, and eventually become the Roman Empire, or you could start along the Nile, or the Tigris and Euphrates, or the Chinese rivers, or anywhere really, and forge an empire from the most humble of beginnings. Now here’s all the information I originally wrote down for myself so that I didn’t forget any of the important details: Ages and Periods of Tribal Empires Paleolithic Period: (collecting seeds from gathered food plants, hunting, trading, assimilating other tribes into your own through warfare and diplomacy, fighting rival tribes for access and control of hunting grounds.) What are your guy’s video game ideas?
I'm currently working on an AARPG. So far it's been very inspired by the first couple of games in the Gothic series. I'm working on coming up with new original ideas. So far I've gotten down pieces of the story and lots of backstory, though I have a lot of things in my head that I haven't gotten down yet. BUUUUUT I'm not sharing it cause SOMEBODY COULD STEAL IT!!! =]
You’re right, it is similar to Spore isn’t it? The major difference between Spore and my idea is simply the scale of the game, which I think was a big problem for Spore. Going from a microscopic organism to a galactic empire was just too much for one game.
Kaiserreich First Person shooter. Fighting as Canada, some faction in the seccond American Civil War, Germany defending the Neutral Netherlands from the Commune of France, and Japanese takeover of German Pacific colonies. Also, there are going to be some sad moments, I want to have a cutscene during the German campaing with the funeral march song and a child getting hit with artilery and the sould of the child wandering the battlefeild and observing the mass lines of dead soilders lining up until she runs into death. That would be a powerfull cutscene among other epic scenes, like last stands as a loosing faction in the Seccond American Civil war. If you dont know about Kaiserreich head to the PC section.
Ages ago I had this great idea of a mix between RPG and RTS. Untill my brother told me about Spellforce one day later...
tht sounds like a great game. U should find some way to desiine it or send it to a major game producing company, like the one that produces Civ
Thanks man. Unfortunately the game will never be made, the video game industry just doesn't work like that. Gaming companies aren't going to invest money on some random guy's idea. The only way I could even dream of having my ideas realized would be to first work my way up in the gaming industry and hope to eventually become a lead game designer, and I simply don't have what it takes to do that.
Have you ever played any of the games in the Gothic series? (especially the first one). It's made by a small team of practically buddies working on their spare time. It was distributed by JoWood, which (even though they're jerks) take a lot of random ideas and have a better look at them. Many get through. Though there's also a lot of them that don't get played much (because they don't get all the media attention). But the two games I think are the best in the world (Gothic and Spellforce) are both distributed by JoWooD =]
