So does war ever change? What do you think? Do you think with the advancements in weapons such as nuclear missiles that can be shot anywhere on the planet? I personally think no matter what war will in the end still be the same. Because war-war never changes
Annexation is rarely in the diplomatic stage now. Resources and influence, definitely. Especially what we see from the Imperialist countries. big i.e USA! Technology can change warfare. Ancient era - Soldiers fighting with swords, spears, bow and arrows, catapults, ballistas, etc Modern era - Soldiers are now equipped with advanced projectiles. Armored warfare has played a difference. Fighter jets, ICBM's, nuclear subs, lasers, etc Goals - not changed Technology - Changes it immensely!
I know not with what weapons WW 3 shall be fought with, but WW 4 shall be fought with sticks and stones War changes, the goals do and so do the rules. The only thing that never changes is the desire to kill. Posessed by every single human on at least one level.
I believe what we define as war has changed. Look at Iraq/Afghanistan, 'wars' that are in fact large policing actions. There is no set, uniformed enemy/army, and there are no pitched battles (apart from 'major skirmishes', but these aren't war ending events). I also think post-MAD the meta-game between two superpowers has changed drastically, neither side wants total commitment to war, so they are reduced to skirmishes, satellite wars and other tricks (political, economic manoeuvring)
basically. Thats why there is no right or wrong answer. You could make the argument that war does change because we fight it differently. You could also say war never changes because the concept of war always remains the same.
The idea that war never changes is a pseudo intellectual slab of bullshit, Technology changes, armies change, tactics change, enemies change, and reasons change.
The idea is Nuclear War wipes out civilization and we're set back to a stone age. It's probably an exageration, but it's a good quote.
I know and that isnt that far off from where we would actually end up being. fallout New Vegas will then be shown on the history channel
We went from fighting wars for territory and resources(romans), to fighting them for religious reasons(Crusades), to fighting for territory and prestige(Colonial Empires), to fighting for idealogy and resources(Cold War, current wars)
Depends on what you think as change, the tactics, change, goals change to some extent, but the brutality of human nature is always there, as is the suffering and pain.
