He brought the Soviet Union into the 20th century, and saved them from the Nazis. The flip side is that he was an evil tyrant who condemned thousands, if not millions, to imprisonment and death. And he knew full well about Katyn despite those who claim otherwise. So I can understand why Krushchev condemned him.

Stop using caps lock, it is fucking annoying and you deserve to burn in eternal flames for that. As what comes to question it is the first one in short, as I'm not on the mood to write an entire essay on the subject.

Basically, this answers the thread. Although i'd add he knew about more than Katyn; the Soviets had killed far far more people in their part of occupied Poland than the Nazis had in theirs (as of 1941).

Pfft, undermining my selective dates. Like I said, the numbers were very different prior to the start of Operation Barbarossa. Stalin didn't even use the pretext of war.
The number of deaths attributed to Stalin compared to Hitler in total are as we all know, far from favourable. Not that i'm defending Hitler or anything. Whether Stalin was ultimately the best option for the Soviet Union, we can only know if we go back and tell Lenin to ensure he never comes to power.

I'm not gonna get back into some sort of Nazi-defending corner, especially since this isn't my (rather strange) thread. Quite simply, millions perished because of Stalin in the decade before WWII, and I find it to be an injustice no-one did anything about this, even given what the Nazis did subsequently. Almost as much of an injustice as my country going to war with the Germany on the pretext of defending Poland, which of course ended up being dominated by the USSR after the war. Shows how sincere that was. We are really all a bunch of assholes it seems.

Stalin was a terrible hurricane of death and tyranny that both annihilated the (relative) innocence of the USSR and more literally annihilated large swathes of its population.

Poland became independent in 1921 and remained as one until German - Soviet invaded it 1939. I don't see how could have Stalin killed millions upon of millions of poles as People's Commissar for Nationalities' Affairs I have no idea.

Simple answer, the winners of a war make history.

He did good during the war (not talking about the genocides), however he was very paranoid so not the best head of government to have, plus didn't the Allied forces bombed German cities to hell killing loads of civilians?? The Soviets aren't the only bad guys in this history.

100 000 German civilians died to actions of USSR and it's allies
Western allies killed 350 000 German civilians, mostly in air raids.

(Combat as well as war crimes)

Like Stalin once said: "This war is not as in the past; whoever occupies a territory also imposes on it his own social system. Everyone imposes his own system as far as his army can reach."

Stalin was a great man. He was born in a backwards town in Georgia and slowly climbed the ranks to become the most powerful man in the world. He turned Russia from a starving, war-torn destitute country to the most powerful. In 10 years. He totally annihilated all who stood against him. All of his foes were put to the sword. He ended up crushing arguably the greatest military might in the world. Stalin did not attach emotion to his goals. He systematically killed millions of people. Stalin could care less about human life. That is what made him, in my eyes, one of the greatest men to have ever lived.

Shut up with your stupid morals. This man got shit done.

how does that make him a great man. Hitler came up from nothing and saved the Germans economy but like Stalin killed millions of people and I guess you dodt like Hitler for doing that so why do you like Stalin. he helped to destroy the soviet union you should hate him.

I do like Hitler. I consider him a great man. He was similar to Stalin, but I do not admire his antisemitic, racist etc ideals. Still, he accomplished a lot, and I admire him for that.
