As we all know the US offically won the Cold War but the one time and largest time we actually got in a war with communists was Vietnam and we lost. For those who say we won, our job was to defend South Vietnam.

Point it out on the map.

Umm... it was a game of last man and ideology standing.
    The U.S. won:
    1. Communism ceased to spread, in fact it lost ground.
    2. China survived, but is only a Communism in name. In fact, the argument can and has been made that they are more Capitalist than the U.S. now.
    3. The USSR, the center of the Communism-Spread movement collapsed.

The U.S. retained its ideology and survived. Therefore, the common man can assume that the U.S. clearly won.

Also, you're ignoring the Korean War and I can say with great confidence that I can point to it on a map.

How is this even a question? The USSR collapsed, Vietnam has pretty-much become pro-America so in the long run we won that war, we successfully defended South Korea, and it's debatable that China has become more Capitalist than us. Our "loss" in Vietnam is hardly through fault of our own, the American public won that war for them because they sure as shit weren't winning by any means.

After reading several of your posts, I can say in full honesty that you are the most retarded least educated person on these forums.

So the Cold War was between the USSR and the US. The USSR no longer exists and the US is the strongest country in the World.

Man, this is going to be hard.

I think what your trying to point out is that although the US lost most of the small conflicts they still won in the end. Which isn't true, the US won smaller conflicts all the time.

I think you forgot who the OP of this thread is. You seem to be under the impression that this is supposed to be intelligent.

Duh. thats all you need to answer your quesion. to go syntamental on you, "everyone wins, now that the blood being shed and the fingers being pointed have ceased, we can safetly sleep in our beds, knowing that the communist devils cn no longer threaten the "american dream" with their bombs and guns and spacecraft" - me

That all hurt my hands to type. being sentimental, another action i refuse to do.

It was a battle to see who would outlast one another, so the U.S can claim an overall victory. Sure they lost/pulled out a theater in the Cold War, but we recovered, and didn't collapse. So I think you can say the U.S won, but really their was no war with the Soviets, so I guess we'll never know who really would have won a full on conflict.

But the OP is trying to argue that the Soviet Union won the Cold War since we pulled out of Viet Nam.

But by that notion, we then won the cold war because the Soviet union pulled out of Afghanistan

Well, we were still in existence after Vietnam. The Soviets fought theirs (Afghanistan), and it ended up contributing to their collapse. The main objective was to outlast the Soviets, and theirs was to outlast us.

OK the Cold War was between the US and the USSR. Can anyone find the USSR on a map today? No, so I'm pretty sure the US won the Cold War. You can say that Vietnam was a "lose" but look at what happened to the Soviets in Afghanistan.
