Okay everyone - share your love (and tactics maybe) for Company of Heroes. It has to be one of my favourite games of all time. iI'm pretty awful at the game, most of my win/loss ratios are about equal, except for British (1v1), which is just terrible (but catching up a bit).
Actually, you're right (dammit, sucking up to Stalin). It's just that I used to get carried away building defenses, which get wtfpwned later on. I don't bother with them now apart from the odd bofors.
It used to be, but any dual core is probably fine I think. Hell, if you've got more than 2Ghz of processing power, you're alright
I have a pretty mid (maybe even low) range laptop, and i've never had a problem. I do get a lower frame rate on battery power though
Apparently you can get the Company of Heroes Anthology for £10 over here, I don't know how much that is in dollars. It'll be be pretty hit and miss whether you can find it in the shops though. And to think I paid £29.99 for the Gold Edition
Recently got it, loving it so far. Need to practise though, the skirmish AI is kicking my ass. Any experienced players have some tips?
True. I like to think that the last three years (wow, that long) of gameplay i've had is well worth the £30. But anyone who paid full price for ToV is a fool Which difficulty are you on? I find 'normal' easy (no idea what 'easy' is like lol) and hard, well pretty hard. My tip would be to concentrate on one faction for a bit, get to know it - US are the easiest, 'cos riflemen are quite flexible. I guess knowledge of what each thing does is the most important thing to know. Also, in the early game, bear in mind that riflemen beat volksgrenadiers at close range, and volks beat rifles at range (but you can use cover to tip the balance). Ultimately, map control is the key part of the game - stay still too long and suddenly you'll find the enemy has taken all the points and used the resources to build an army to crush you. Best way to get better at the quickly though, is to watch the replays of yourself being beaten. Simply remove the fog of war, and try to copy what they did next time Oh, one final thing - anyone know anything about a CoH sequel? I think it'd be great if they incorporated the Eastern Front, then we could have a real NKVD clan!
There's a mod for the Eastern Front you know. It's very polished, it's got a fully developed Soviet faction. Website here: http://www.easternfront.org I'm actually hoping there will never be a sequel, my computer would probably no longer be able to play it  Plus I got the game recently so i'd hate to think I wasted £10 on the Anthology when a sequel was around the corner.
I have it and I enjoy it, but I find it has one of the most uptight dare I say snobbish communities within gaming. They seem so resistant to letting new people play.
this, the brits are the best in the game. By FAR they have the most strategy in them then any other nation in the entire game. The US is a close 2nd though. Germans are easy to play, thats why everyone goes with them.
I have the game, but I personally prefer Men of War AS better. Far more realistic, and more strategy. Don't get me wrong, CoH is a damn good game, but to me, it feels like the call of duty of WWII RTS.
MoW:AS and CoH is a tricky decision. To me, despite the positively retarded amount of realism that CoH sacrifices I still consider it better than AS. For one, you can actually have skirmishes with the AI. They have that in AS, just that the AI is laughably terrible. CoH has much faster and exciting game play than AS and it's less buggy, if you've ever saw a tank get capsized by a pebble you'd understand. To me CoH is a better game. Although AS is still great.
