I been thinking for quite sometime about nationlism and how its affect the way we view the world. Tell me what is your sense of nationlism and how does it affect the world?
It's essentially racism, and it's bad. In some cases it's literally racism, and it's almost always coupled with copious amounts of racist rhetoric.
Nationailism is one of the biggest divides that is preventing us from actually uniting as human beings from across the globe, instead of uniting as a bunch of countries that hate the shit out of each other.
In a way you can think of it as extreme patriotism, that leads one to think that your country and its people are the best and other coutries and there people or below yours. I feel nationalism as affected the world by causing wars and just by people hating each other because of the country they live in.
Nationalism is pretty awesome. It's nice to have something to stand for. It's not racist in the slightest, I have no idea what your talking about.
I think my definition of nationalism must be different than everybody else's because I don't think it's all that bad.
Nationalism and racism are two sides of the same coin. Both are irrational and both celebrate fictions. Nationalism becomes racism when the idea of superiority extends not just to the political structure of a nation, which can be rational (and would be better described as patriotism), but to its people. Assigning traits to people based on their nationality, like saying that Chinese people are hard working, or that Americans are pompous, is nationalistic. And exactly like racism except that the arbitrary trait to which all of these characteristics are assigned is your birthplace and not your skin color.
I dont have a sense of nationalism. Mostly because it is indoctrinated into us at low age. If you are patriotic for our country, someone somewhere will call you a Nazi right away Thats why I can laugh without getting pissed about those greeks burning our flag in the streets, because we pay them 130 Billion Euros....lol!
I was thinking of the one where Germany tried to tell Scandinavia bad things happened when he feels national pride. Can't find it though.
We already had this tread and Kali already contradicted himself . Therefore, this thread has no further purpose.
I have a sense of nationalism. I think our country has come far and I am proud of that. I live in one of the biggest countries in the world and for a big country, things are pretty great here. I think the USA is better than other large countries out in the world IE China and Russia, but I know that a lot of European nations have it better, mainly because they are smaller.
