Well Stalin I'm tired of this "Leadership of Four", at the end of the day all the parties are cut from the same Conservative cloth. However at least even in these times the Canadian system of government has survived through the perils. As well for the very least we aren't America I mean just two parties; and all their Politicians are pre-selected and there to give the illusion of freedom. With a few exceptions although they are taken out either way.

the parliamentary system, which is used by the UK, Canada et al, defiantly sounds like it was more directed towards the people, allowing them to change the government whenever the need arises and more policies can be enacted, the machine analogy was good, whilst the american system was made to keep the power away from any executive and inturn give most of that power to the legislature. however most congress members are more influenced on how they can stay in power instead of making good policy thus making every bill or any big changes a battle that more often than not gets said bill killed. Going back a bit it seems that Canada has more "party cooperation" if you will than America, where parties would rather die than work together if you will, there can't be a "our government is better than yours heres why" argument because its different interpretations of the same idea. granted politicians do ALOT of stupid things, example given "weiner gate and john edwards" so the real issue is how can we make them work together rather than who's political dogma happens to be in power at the moment

But a point made in the forum post, wich I still don't follow is that MP's in Canada are more influenced by their party leaders then their constituents.

Also you mentioned proportional representation... You do know this would end up with the opposite of what you want, because with prkportional representation, there is nearly never a majority government, and nearly always a coalition government (wich leads to not being able to pass whatever you want as a party...

Also I still have the idea that you just need 51% of Congress and the president and then you bassicaly got the same as in Canada. (well except Americans don't follow party leadership for 100%, wich is the actual reason policy is slow)

But Canada's way to do this is all to fermiller to what is happening in America right now. If one party gets to much power it can disrupt the balence and you can end up with laws and policies that you thought could never pass. The way you explaned it, it seems that this can happen at any time in Canada. In America all these checks and balences are to stop one party from make dramatic and drastic changes to the nation. Unless most people agree to them and in that case it is a law or policies that is good for the nation.
