What would the world be like...

If the Roman Empire fell like it did, there would be no uber empire replacing them. There were a bunch of disorganized German tribes, and none of them could have ever created an uber empire, or even a large empire, anything like the Romans had. There were empires, i.e. the holy roman empire, but they didn't bring Europe out of the middle ages. The western half of the Roman Empire would have never fell, or the Eastern half would have had to somehow reclaim the western empire...and hold onto it.

I think, instead of the Middle Ages not happening, which is lunacy, there is a better question.

How about, how would the world be if the Bubonic Plague never happened? Imagine how many Da Vincis and Michelangelos we lost in that plague.

There were like 5 different bubonic plague outbreaks, dating back to the siege of Athens during the Pellopenessian wars.

Don't forget about Asia and China, they were effected as well.

If the disease never appeared. Its not inevitable, its just inevitable for a disease that already exists to strike multiple times. So, if the disease didn't exist.

Well then, that would change a lot of things. First and foremost being, the Athenians might have not lost the siege of Athens, and might have not had their empire destroyed.

More recently, Europe may have had a larger population and been significantly more advanced.

The next Spaniard who'd sail there would take more than 300 men and would've wiped them out anyway.

There was a good Cortes timeline on alternatehistory.com, I don't know whether or not he fails.
