    No, this was an exception to the norm of two parties, which we've pretty much always had. The only reason this election had more was because, as mentioned earlier, Teddy Roosevelt disagreed with Taft and didn't want him to get the Republican nomination again, even though he was the incumbent. The Republicans didn't nominate Teddy so he made his own party. Debs was the guy who kept trying and never won. I believe it was the election of 1920 that Debs ran for president from jail because he was arrested in 1918 for speaking out against American involvement in WWI. He ran for president 5 times in his life and at most got around 6% of the vote.

    The US has more then two parties, its just third parties never really get that much support compared to the two major parties.
