    I understand being buried in a state or military funeral, but what the hell did the families think was happening? Did they just tell the military to take the ashes away? I would think, if my relative died, that I would supervise the process of their disposal.

    Anyway, this isn't "how the US treats their military dead". It's how some idiots made a despicable choice, and a example of poor supervision. It's not a statement about the US or military in general.

    I had thought that U.S citizens kept track of what happens to the body and can make descisions about what they want to do with it. I'm sure that is not all of the dead there, only the ones that were told to be cremated. Still, a very disgusting story this is, what a heart breaker for patriots who love their country so much.
