A new space race.

China has started to move in the space department. This could lead to USA making its own moves and start a new space race. Of course this would lead to funding of the (almost dead) NASA and lead to scientific breakthroughs.
Would this be a positive thing? Could this mean the first man on Mars?
All I have to say is, discuss.

China is decades behind pretty much every other space power, except India and Pakistan. If there were to be a new space race, it would be between the Russians and NASA/ESA.

I think I read about Russia and a new sort of space program, but I can't remember what it was about, exactly...

The Russians are planning on the construction of a Robotic Moon Base.

I don't think so, no president would invest into space without first taking funding out of another thing.

Really? If we have had this thread then it wasn't in science. This thread is about discussing what would happen scientifically if a new space race in modern time started.

'Science' didn't exist back then.
The only justifications for having this thread are:
1) The other thread would be a necro.
2) The old thread derailed
3) Possibly new information has turned up that changes something.
The fact of the matter is that nothing significant has really changed or at least nobody has presented any new information for any of the sides.

So science doesn't exist now? And really I have gone trough all threads in the science section and there doesn't exist anyone about a modern space race.

You could just ask a mod to move the older one to the 'Science' section.
Most of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens know about the thread and I am pretty sure that Kali remembers.

The most likely new Space Race would either be between the US and Russia, or maybe the US and Japan. Or if we really want something interesting how about the US vs. Russia vs. EU

vs. Japan? I mean, they already beat us in building a stairway to heaven.

Japan is one of the most heavily in debt places on earth. They would never commit to that.

Well neither would we. Hell neither will anyone besides maybe the EU at this point.
