The Polish protesting is more important than it sounds because it could inspire others across Europe to protest. Also, all the EU countries except Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Slovakia, signed ACTA at a meeting in Japan on Thursday.

Google is changing its Privacy Policy, do I smell something fishy, or has ACTA crawled up my skin?

Actually, from what I can gather with a quick browse they just threw all their privacy policies in a blender hit "puree", posted the results.

You can (and should) read it here. Though you'll probably only find interest in the section "legal reasons".

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't ACTA just an agreement between countries to fight online piracy, rather then a law that allows governments to censor the Internet , like SOPA?

Well since these acts are all made by people with no idea of what the internet really is, they think it's just pirates, paedophiles and people who help pirates. This act has been passed in many countries and they are experiencing severe censorship. Besides, if this act was just stopping piracy and we wouldn't likely have a problem with it, they wouldn't be trying to pass this in secret.

It also is worth noting this only helps large recording companies and media corporations as any money gained through copyright fines goes straight to the corporation that published it. The idiots that made this act need to realise the only way to stop piracy is to make it more convenient to buy it, as you have probably noticed how Steam, Gamersgate (and other online games stores like them) have effectively destroyed most game pirating.

But don't you see, this act is not meant to stop piracy, it's just an agreement, or pledge between countries to work towards fighting piracy(which I have no problem with). It's not a law or anything that actully limits the internet like sopa or pipa, so I don't really understand how people can call it "PIPA's evil twin" when the two are really nothing alike.

It legally allows governments to spy on their people. It may not technically be a law but it is an expansion of other piracy laws. Currently your internet provider is legally allowed to take your connection if it detects piracy, this agreement gives that power to corporations. If this is agreed upon, every page you visit, every video you watch, will be closely examined by government agencies. This, like SOPA can also allow *some* corporations to declare copyright on things they don't really own. This will violate half you're civil rights so you, as an american, don't have to worry as much as i do since Australia does not have these rights protecting us.

no it is an agreement that makes it so that all internet providers monitor everything you upload and download and if their is to much pirated content in the content you upload and download you can lose the right to be on the internet

Yeah, i would steal from Poland if i really wanted to, but stealing information from my own country is considered treason. I will not betray my country even if the internet is at risk.
