I was reading How Rome Fell by Adrian Goldsworthy and came across it. I thought what the hell, we are not discussing anything in this thread right now, so I might as well.

Does it have to be Rome, though? Can't it be Persia this time? Although I guess that isn't too hard to figure out...that is, if we are to believe Amy Chua (I think it was her who wrote the book I read it in...).

Do you know who Edward Gibbon even is? He is well known for his criticism for Christianity. He also is believed to have sparked some Anti-Semitism. He is a well known atheists and is a "son of the Enlightenment".

They were pretty awesome, although in the end, I doubt they ever could've beaten the Romans, with only Hannibal coming even somewhat close.

What about the war of Alexander's generals after his death? I mean between Peridccas, Ptolemy, old man antipater, the argead house, eumenes the greek Alexander's scroll guy who rose as one of the most prominent and talented of Alexander's generals after his death, Antigonus the one-eyed, the athenian revolts, selecus, there is tons of stuff we could talk about.

Which one of Alexander's generals who fought after his death do you guys like the most? I was rooting for Eumenes, the most unlikeliest of leaders, to pull it off. He was not vying for personal power (for as a greek he had no hopes of becoming the king of the Macedonian throne) and instead was hell-bent on trying to preserve the Argead house (Alexander's dynasty) and have it rule the empire. He came very close to (and if it was not for the treachery of one of his allies who hated him due to him being a greek) beating Antigonus the One-Eyed, his former friend, and the most powerful general at the time. Time and time again, he escaped defeat and had stunning victories, even killing the most powerful general before Antigonus, Craterus.
