Not a big fan of anime, especially when I see people absolutely obsessed with it. But as an art style itself, it's "different".
I don't watch nearly as much anime as I used to, but I still watch some. There are a lot of animes with very good storylines, but there's also a whole lot of crap (same as everything else.) I personally can't stand the animes that rely heavily on fanservice though. On the subject of dubs yes most are crap, but sometimes they are decent. Sometimes they are better than the original japanese. Case in point: [yt:2spc823e]NPp3nl6JmiQ[/yt:2spc823e]
Not really a fan of the animation and art style. Did like the Animatrix however and anime seems to do gore really well (akira if I recall correctly).
I like anime as long as it is original or interesting and not the same thing over and over again... [yt:2z5axeyd]ibPCLMH1NM4[/yt:2z5axeyd]
Lemme put it this way: Tokyo is basically the Hollywood of anime and pumps out crap for the masses. It seems to me the weeaboo's here consume a general expression of a foreign culture rather put forward a different method of story telling. Such people make bad representatives of anime. I'm sure there's lots of good Japanese animation but it gets buried under by studios with more marketing power. Just as a crappy action flick will eclipse a decent movie here, it's probably the same in Japan.
Actually Tokyo will no longer be the capital for anime and manga since the governor there banned it "to protect the youth" says a guy who has written several adult novels. He also wants to ban internet for the same reason. The ban takes affect in June.
From what I saw on Google News, the ban only covers material that is obvious child pornography, not the medium itself. If allowing the distribution of child pornography is a requirement to being the "anime capital of the world" then I think Tokyo is better for losing that status... Additionally, the internet will not be banned. Basically they're passing their own form of COPPA.
The Tokyo Anime & Manga Ban is actually very vague and subjective , it states that it would ban the general sell of things that “interfere with the healthy development of youth ... rape and other sexual acts which violate societal norms”.
I lol'd at the fact that you chose to quote that section and not underline this part. The main purpose of the bill is to stop the proliferation of child pornography... Only "harmful material" is actually affected, and harmful material is defined as explicitly sexual, so at worst it gets rid of some weird porn as well as child porn. I really don't see how it will diminish free expression; pretty much every nation on the planet has obscenity laws that would have disallowed this nonsense in the first place.
The reason I underlined the "violate societal norms” part and not the "rape and other sexual acts" part was because I was pointing out how vague and subjective the ban is. "rape and other sexual acts"(very clear and cut) "violate societal norms”This is very vague and could mean anything (such as a manga/anime about a gay/lesbian relationship without any extreme sexual content being included in the ban) which will diminish free expression. Also here is my original quote again because I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say.
HOORAH t'was.... J.D. Salinger quote to me sort of embodies a personal euphemism that I have had since a child. Was nice to see a believable futuristic society in an Anime for once
hate anime never get the story magic shovels and little spinny things with draggons in them ughhh makes me shiver. also whats up with the hair and eyes in anime?
You are plainly watching the crappy anime try watching First Squad, Full Metal Alchemist, or Pumpkin Scissors.
