    Just a theory? It's a scientific theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_theory

What are these huge holes you speak of?

To be fair, there are a lot of holes yet to be filled in evolutionary theory. Mainly about the origin of life; specifically why the hell some random molecules reacted and somehow started pumping carbon. Then suddenly felt the need to reproduce... That's not to say that it's invalid, but I would like an explanation.

Isn’t that abiogenesis’ realm? That question doesn't need to be answered in order to prove evolution.

    A) Scientific theory is still just theory not fact. B) The holes are that a species evolution may be too slow so that the pressures are too much. Ex. Species being lost to the rise in temperature. The other is with interconnected bodily systems. An example I heard is the bat. You know they do that screech thing and use special sensors in their ears and brain to determine position. Alone they are useless and what are the chances that they came together.

Again to reiterate, I believe in evolution.

That's the theory of abiogenesis, not evolution. Evolution is basically modification via descent.

On the topic, I'm the guy who sits in the back and barely says anything unless if the teacher says something incorrect.

They're kind of inherently linked. Spontaneous generation (old school abiogenesis) was one of the main catalysts for investigation into evolutionary theory. But more importantly, it doesn't really do any good to have a wonderful history of the planet's life if we can't pinpoint the genesis.

They aren't inherently linked... Because even if we never figure out how life came to be, that would say nothing as far as the theory of evolution goes. If it turns out a god created the first life forms, we would still have enough evidence to prove the theory of evolution.

None scientist quoters kinda go on the "because they did" strain of logic.

Yah, our class was supposed to talk about Mao Zedong, but I wanted to talk about Chicago public schools banning home lunches lol. Not that Mao Zedong is not interesting, because he is, but I just wanted to talk about lunches...mmk.

This is why seminar style class are fantastic, lecture/tutorial rolled into one. Start out talking about the defecit model of science , end up debating why toasters are more dangerous than sharks.

I'm that guy who always has that massive black, wool coat on during the hottest times of the year and who always looks like he zoned out and frowns would say that space and planets are "heavenly objects". And you think he has some sort of gun or drugs under it because it is WAY too big, but really he just has a flask under all that wool.
