If I could I would. I remember though it was something about a meeting they had (Churchill, Truman, and Stalin) about what they were to do about Japan. I remember reading that Truman said dropping the a-bomb was agreed without hesitation by all parties including Stalin.

edit: I read it somewhere in the Book "In harm's Way: The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis".

The USS Indianapolis was the ship that delivered the bomb to wherever it was the Enola Gay took off from.

My thoughts would be that Stalin wanted to see the results of the atomic weapon, because well he did have alot of spies in the program (and had a pretty good working atomic agency by 1945) tough i think in the end, Stalin would have loved to get as much territory as possible in Asia and Europe.

Lol the Indianapolis they got fucked up.

Yeah. And then the navy court martialed their captain for what happened when the Navy was clearly at fault...

So American lives are somehow superior and more valuble to Japanese lives?

Have you ever watched The Fog of War?

Everyone should watch, greatest military documentary ever. A small part of it talks about the bombings and how unnecessary they were. But don't let that turn you away from it. Watch it. Should be required learning.

I have to agree with Shaw. One of greatest military documentaries ever made.

No it was crime against humanity. There is no excuse you can give. May I assume that you also support all officers executed in Poland by Soviets? Or Germans holocaust with shooting virtually every male in USSR?

You make me sick. Dropping atomic bomb on a city is not and cannot be acceptable, it is war crime like they all and how ever will be found responsible should be shot.

Justification for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan wasn't necessary to its slightest. It's just a horrible thought to come into mind when knowing your cities are about get nuked, knowing the aftermath of the explosion. I'm sorry but the people that thought it was okay to drop those atomic bombs on Japan should of been hold accountable back in the day, no excuse whatsoever. It was incredibly evil on behalf of the Americans, there's no denying that.

I just hate the fact when westerners start penalizing the Soviet Union for war crimes, like the rape and pillaging that went on in Germany which in all fairness was quite barbarically insane. However though so was the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan. Patriotism is evil. "Well, we don't want to sacrifice our troops for the invasion of Japan. Millions of US soldiers are going to be killed in the attempt of trying to capitulate the Japanese into a surrender" even though your not giving the slightest concern for the Japanese civilians in the time of situation as well.

Overall, I don't agree with the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan since it was incredibly evil and no justification for it.

Why are you all so uptight about nuclear bombs? Firebombing went on for a lot longer, did a lot more damage, and killed a lot more people. As a geopolitical move, the bombs were necessary, as a strategic move to end WWII as quickly as possible and with as few casualties as possible the bombs were necessary, and as a last resort before an invasion of Japan would truly commence (and feature more atomic and conventional bombing) the bombs were necessary.

A brutal and prolonged war of attrition against a fanatically insurgent populace would not be preferable to the atomic bombings, especially once you consider that the Soviets would be getting involved in mainland Japan as well.

Do you not understand how many Japanese civilians we saved. What part of the civilians were ready to fight to the death do you not understand? Go look at what the Japanese civilians did after we took some of their islands, most notably Saipan. They were so brainwashed into thinking the Americans were going to torture them and stuff that they through themselves and their children off cliffs to their death. Other civilians fought the Americans. The Japanese had already resigned to fighting the invasion and honestly there is no guarantee that the invasion would succeed. I will repeat this again. Japan really only surrendered because they thought we were gonna drop the a-bomb on Tokyo as well.

And speaking of Stalin, he AGREEED to the dropping of the atomic bomb as well.

Give me evidence of Stalin agreeing to the dropping of the atomic bomb?

Never heard that in my life.

You cannot justify exterminating cities full of people by saying "Because we saved lives" as I previously said, that with that logic you should support holocaust, if it helps you win the war, thus "saving lives". That is the most pathetic argument for support of atomic bombs being dropped on civilian target.

The use of the atomic bomb was by far the best option available. Sure, people died, but the relative cost in lives is significantly less than the alternative. Thus, lives were 'saved.'

Lives were "saved" by murdering 16 million civilians in USSR, it was the best option.

Not really sure what point you're trying to make. If nothing is justified then justice loses meaning and doesn't matter. Given the circumstances you cannot say that the dropping of the bomb wasn't better than the alternative; a long and bitter war of attrition against a fanatic insurgent population, as well as Soviet involvement in mainland Japan. Many more people would have died, Japan would still end up with the short end of the stick, and the geopolitical situation would have been considerably more intolerable.

You just said my point, only apply it to Nazi Germany on conquering Europe.
