    That is going to far, however I don't think anyone was advocating anything that extreme. A simple slap or a spanking (only used when they really do something bad) does not hurt the child or cause physcological damage. The key is to find a balance, being too soft or hard on your kid can both have negative consequences. Be to soft and they will not respect you as a parent and will just take advantage of you ( know plenty of kids who treat their parents like shit and get away with it), but be to0 hard on them and you will just make them out right fear you and make you look like an asshole in their eyes and everyone elses.

    Those kids that don't respect their parents have parents that are trying to be their friends, not their parents. You don't need to physically discipline your kids to gain their respect.
