My favorite alternate history games are Freedom Fighters and Hearts of Iron 2, I especially loved the gameplay in Freedom Fighters including the music and the way you actually feel like a guerrilla fighter fighting with limited troops, ammo and the fact that you can actually fall back into the sewers and relocate your attack to damage your enemy's capability to fight. When I played Homefront it was fun to play but the story didn't made any absolute sense. What is your favorite Alternate History Game?

Europa Universalis III for sure. Colonising North America with Italy and creating another Ottoman Empire with the tiny state in South-West Anatolia are some of my greatest feats so far =D

"SuperPower" is a great game to test relatively modern alternate history scenarios. The world starts out in 1993 (I believe) using real world conditions at the time. Incredibly deep gameplay but you can play as any of 140 different countries and control absolutely everything from military to research to economy to international relations, etc. And, once you've tested what you were trying to find out, if you have nukes you can easily start WWIII. In fact, the chains of nuclear attack are very interesting at times and make for a fun end to the game. (Nuclear winter kills everybody and game over once the threshold is breached.) But just using a nuke doesn't necessarily mean it's the end. Small scale tactical strikes are possible but have severe costs associated with them, especially if you're the aggressor.

most paradox strategy games (like EU, vicky and HOI). World in conflict, freedom fighters was pretty good too, a bit cheesy though.

Okay I know this isn't absolutely the best, but I have a lot of nostalgia for the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert. I first played it at a friend's house when I was 12 years old in 1998. The premise is "What if Einstein invented a time machine and killed Hitler in the 20s? Well, Stalin would try to take over Europe." Beyond that premise things got a little silly (but in an awesome way) with anachronistic jet fighters, helicopters, and freaking Tesla coils! Plenty of fun times playing that game.

My only disappointment in that game is that it only visited 2 timelines The American Civil War and World War 1, I would have liked it more if it would have visited more timelines I mean seriously imagine what it would be like if you were at the Battle of Thermopylae standing side-by-side with the spartans armed only with an auto aiming machine gun firing upon rows upon rows of persians and everyone there thinks that you are some kind of soldier sent by Ares to help the Spartans.

I like Victoria II. I'm playing a Modded version as Poland-Lithuania and I'm having a good time colonizing Australia and conquering Eastern Europe. Oh, and beating the crap out of the divided, North American nations.

I can't name the mod off the top of my head though, I know it's a ridiculously altered history mod if that helps.

I forgot two more Alternate History Games, World in Conflict, and Red Alert 1 and 2, I loved World in Conflict for that more realistic approach to Alternate History and creating a new method of playing RTS, the music was dramatic, the characters compelling, the story was well written, and it showed us the horrors of a true modern war between two superpowers, I was immediately horrified of the weapons shown in World in Conflict due to their ability cause damage in such a large scale, all the weapons I have seen that came from WW1, WW2, and Vietnam were archaic in comparison to the weapons that was employed in World in Conflict.
