I like Bethesda, but this is a dick move. It would be like if Konami sued Epic because Metal Gear Solid and Gears of War both had the word Gear in it. What do you guys think?

I agree - this whole case is ridiculous. I mean, how can one own the sole rights to use a word?

Bethesda will get its ass handed to it in court, but I doubt it will come to that. Probably they'll just go with the deal Notch previously gave them.

Do we have any idea how the Sweedish courts work though? I have a vague understanding of contract law at best, but without the help of google I couldn't even tell you if Sweeden was a civil or common law country.

Also, doesn't everyone call the Bethesda game Scolls anyway so wouldn't another company trademarking a slang term for their own game be a tricky issue?

It would sort of be like PetSmart suing a company that called itslf Pet's Mart because everyone calls PetSmart, Pet's Mart.

I applaud Bethesda for their action, I would still support it if they staged a public execution of Notch and his colleagues.

How many Americans know Swedish law? So they'll use a Swedish one if they want to sue Mojang.

if this happened in Australia we would laugh them out of the courts. and i saw someone say they don't know if Sweden uses civil or common law? we use both. and this is just the Bethesda business section being dicks.
