So, I suppose we're not going to talk about how desperate the Liberal party has become? Well, that's fine with me, a resident of Canada.

Back on topic I don't want everyone to freak out and think that Canada is going to legalize pot let's get a couple of things straight.

This was a policy voted on at the Liberal's national convention in which their delegates voted to have that as a plank in the party's platform. But that doesn't mean the Liberal Party even has to run with that in their election platform in 4 years. So in reality the vote means nothing.

On top of that the liberal government was destroyed in the last election down to 35 out of 308 seats. Put to 3rd party status for the first time in history, and a 3rd party has never won in the next election to form government in Canadian history so the odds of them forming government in the next election are pretty much zero.

In reality this is merely a cynical and some what desperate political move to try and breathe life into a dying party. The Liberals are hurt so badly they are willing to try anything to get back into the minds of Canadians, but what is funny is that it was these types of moves which are exactly why Canadians rejected the Liberal party in the first place. They merely look at public opinion and they decide their platform based off that, they don't really stand for anything. They only now stand for the legalization of pot because right now a majority of Canadians do, but come election time and they look at public opinion polls to find that legalization isn't popular you can bet they are going to drop that position like a rock.

*Puts on Partisan NDP hat* Were you look at a party like the NDP which is a party that has a very clearly defined platform and for better or for worse you know exactly were they stand. You know that their platform isn't going to change on a whim, and it gives people trust in that party. *Takes off Partisan NDP hat*

In the end this is nothing more than a cynical attempt to gain votes.

As a resident of Canada I can safely say that Canada is not going to legalize marijuana any time soon. The Liberal party called an election, were destroyed and are now trying to get public/media attention by voting among themselves to legalize marijuana. Knowing full well it could take months/years to actually get any progress on the law done.

I thought I saw once that the high courts of canada or whatever ruled that marijuana has to be legalized soon. I would get a link but it was on wikipedia and they are down right now. The assholes.

And doesn't the NDP want pot legalized?
Anyway if Canada does legalize gods gift to man I'll be heading to Niagara Falls a whole lot more often. It will make living near the border all the more profitable. Not to mention all the legal dank that would be smuggled over, in a place like Western New York, the shit would be so cheap.

Only good things could come of it.

Cool, Canada. As for me, if this was to be discussed in the House of Parliament I wouldn't hesitate to throw it out. Legalizing marijuana wouldn't be in my nature in all fairness.

It's amazing how many people think Canada has legalized weed.

It's easier for a minor to get pot than beer.

If Canada would legalize weed, I wouldn't go full out, but I'd make a system more like in the Netherlands.

Our system sucks, if they're going to legalize it they should do it right, which means regulating and taxing it like alcohol.

Because it's the individual's choice and it's morally wrong to deny them that?

I'm not sure about the situation in Canada, but here in the Netherlands you can freely buy alcohol, as if it were candy bars.

    Meh.
