For the record your unemployment benefits in the US are calculated by your previous income so the quality of life isn't that different. Now unemployment benefits are temporary and I'm not to familiar with welfare, but there are plenty of cases of people on both programs misusing there funds and spending their money on luxury items.

Again, being born into a bad school district and/or not having enough money to get into college does not justify poverty.

You didn't earn anything. You merely took advantage of the workers. They earned it, they deserve it.

When your talking Political Philosophy, fact is an illusion.
Besides, your in on this opinion thing too:
So, according to you, she's an idiot, and an asshole, and I'd assume you wouldn't be so adverse to calling her a tramp either.

Yet you hold fast that she is entitled too be rich? She hasn't worked a day in her life. Yet, because by pure chance, her father earned a shitton by hard work; she is to have mansions and fancy cars, and never have to worry about anything.

But those who are unlucky enough to have randomly been born into a poor family, they are entitled to nothing but the cloths on their backs, and what little they can scrape off?

So because there are leaches we should be hesitant to help those who are not? Besides, they are such a small minority that they don't even matter.

So if you worked a low income job, you get next to nothing. Point still remains.

Edit: In fact, that seems even more unfair than I thought it was. If you were a CEO/businessperson, you get a shitton of money. If you were a janitor, a teacher, or a part time worker, you get squat.

I guess you can look at it that way, but it's a safety net not a societal elevator. The government shouldn't have a responsibility to provide for more then what is necessary.

The thing is though, people aren't getting what is necessary. Sure, the pension may provide you with a meal every day - But your quality of life is still going to be horrible. The fact is, there are a lot of people who want to, but are unable to work due to physical/mental disability, or other circumstances (Lack of education, single parenthood, etc). The fact that they cannot afford to help themselves is just going to make it harder for them to work.

It doesn't matter if you own a tv, or eat every day - What is important is quality of life. If the majority of people in a country have a shit quality of life, then something is wrong.

Welfare as I understand it is only given to special cases. (Section 8's, recovering addicts, struggling single mothers, ect.)
And while it is entirely possible that for people to misuse their unemployment; it is, like you said, temporary.

Correct. More of the "abuse" especially what you hear about the negative connotations of people mooching off the system is with welfare. Empirically the numbers of people abusing the system are pretty low, and even welfare is seen as a temporary thing.

No it does not, but if you work hard enough and are smart, you can still get into a good college.

What about all the hard work you did to get into that position? At one point, before you were a CEO, you were a common worker as well, especially in Johnny's case.

Her father chose to let her share in his fortune. It was his money and he did what he wanted to do with it.

They just have to work harder for it.

I never said we should be hesitant to help those who are not. Welfare and unemployment are meant to be there to be a safety net, not to bring you up the social ladder.

If you can afford it, not to mention not everyone can be a super genius. And I fail to see how randomly being given genes that allow you be smarter entitles you to more wealth.

What do you mean? They would get compensation for that hard work as well while they were doing it.

Most of it is not his money, and never was his money. His workers were just as entitled to it as he is, it's not like they didn't work.

Ok then, why do you have to be a hard-working, super genius to make something out of your life by virtue of being poor, yet you can be a complete tramp and still be incredibly wealthy simply by being born into the purple?

The problem being that it's so little it doesn't do either.

    Student loans.

What I meant was he worked hard to get to the position of manager.
You are right, it is the company's money.
A manager has to do the same jobs as the regular employees and manage the company.

Paris Hilton's father was a hard worker and he climbed up the social ladder. It just so happens, he decided to give his money to his daughter.

What are you talking about? My mom and step-dad are on unemployment and we are nowhere near being in poverty.

Since your talking about how a manager gets more money would you be fine if the manager was elected by the workers to be the manager.

Managers shouldn't be electing. This is a factory, not a Student Council or something.
Those who become the management of industries should get more pay than the average worker, but massive amounts like millions and even billions are ridiculous.

Just because you have the option of plunging yourself into massive debt to attend University, doesn't mean your really getting much help. It's more like a temporary put off in the hopes you'll find something to pay it off in time.

And so he gets paid more. He doesn't deserve to become super wealthy though.

Exactly, and a corporation is made up of workers. Thus, the workers should get the money. CEOs and otherwise are indeed workers, and they deserve just compensation for their more critical work than the average factoryman. So they should be paid more, just not billions.

Remind me when I last saw Bill Gates working at some factory in China.

And so what? Perhaps you can argue Paris Hilton's father deserved that money. What did Paris Hilton herself ever do to deserve that money? I can think of a million people more deserving of it than she ever was. And yet you still defend that she is entitled to this excessive wealth?

I'm sure there's a third factor your forgeting, never knew of, or are ignoring.

It's really not much. For instance, Welfare:

    Double post!!!

I've noticed that being in debt is a very common thing in the USA. Is this real or it's just an stereotype that we (non american people) get in TV and such?

If you go to college to study fore a high paying field such as law, you can pay off those student loans.

I said he was wealthy not bill gates wealthy.

He made his money in other ways. I was not talking about the richest people in the world when I said that.

Paris Hilton's father earned the money and gave his money to his daughter.

We are not on welfare either.

edit: I have actually searched for apartments for a civics personal finances project and found quite a few apartments for well under 900 dollars a month. Hell the most expensive ones I found were in Moorestown, and they were only 1200 dollars a month, including utilities.
