    As was stated earlier in the thread. Discounting the Korea and Vietnam wars. They refuse to take responsibility for the monster they created in North Korea. Their treatment of neighbors including Japan and Tibet. Surely, you must admit these things are cause for worry.

    PS. Trade with a nation does not mean you are good friends.

    Bah who gives a crap about Tibet. Japan is an economic power in the region and can protect itself. North Korea is old news.

    I doubt it. Our current government is close with the Chinese.

    Why the hell would America just abandon their allies in Asia and let China extend it's sphere? And North Korea isn't old news. Do you understand the concept of international influence?

    @ pedro3131
    Bare in mind that you are talking about the South CHINA Sea. Historically, no nation likes superpowers boardering it. Look at the 5 on the U.N. Security Council. 3 of the 5 [the U.S., China, and Russia] are surrounded by lesser nations. Do you think this is a coincidence? Look at the historical and modern military relations between the British and the French. Not much warm feelings there. China is simply clearing out its neighborhood. Imagine if China had fleets patroling international waters close to the U.S. They would cry foul. As would any other nation. China is no exeption to this.

    @ pottman
    Lols! I heard about those anti-ship missles. Apparently, the Taiwanese detonated hidden charges on the target ship when they missed. By a great margin. Still, in the short run I wouldnt worry about an invasion unless China finds that it has nothing to lose on the international stage. Which would more or less be WW3. I heard of an old Chinese philosophy about trying to take Taiwan: If its not managable in 7 days or less dont bother trying. On the other hand, another saying pretaining to their nuclear arsenal is that no matter how many nukes they have at least 50 or so are pointed soley at Taiwan.

    @ Romulus211
    The ship is called the Varyag.

    @Observer92
    I cannot fathom why they would. [mocking tone]
    Let us count them off shall we?
    1. Japan: The [according to legend] bastard child of China who killed millions of Chinese people in the 30's-45 and never apologized.
    2. Taiwan: The runnaway child who invited a stranger in and currently [reletively] beds it on a miserable [not really, the island is beautiful] piece of rock that belongs to China.
    3. South Korea: A harbor for an enemy and little more than one who is holding to an old quarrle with a sibling and is disturbing the peace.

    @ Tacotruck1166
    What do you expect? You moved into the neighborhood and promptly disturbed the piece. Realise that China and its neighbors [especially Japan] had just stabilized and then you started banging on about the merits of democracy and shooting at anybody that disagreed with you. How did you expect China to take that?
    They did not creat the monster in North Korea [who yes, I agree requires a change in management], they backed the guy that would support their ousting of a foriegn influence.
    Btw: Just because they have no ousted him doesnt mean that they are not losing patience with him. Close after the recent shelling of a South Korean island, he asked China to ship him something like 100 thousand tons of rice to help feed his soldiers and allegedly [doubting this] his civilians. To show their displeasure at his actions they instead sent him an equilvilant amount of corn. This may seem small in food terms, but in reality it was a stinging blow. Besides not being the usual mainstay of their diet it required large amounts of water to cook [something that they were short on] and didnt keep as long in the weather that they had, making it a difficult thing to rely on as food.

    @UnholyKnight800
    Donno about that. The U.S. [provided that China could actually reach its shores] would be hard-pressed to defend itself. Japan would probably be all but crushed in a matter of maybe 3 months [being generous] if the U.S. did not intervene. Their military is more technologically advanced than China's and indeed the U.S., but it is simply too small. In an age where quantity of bullets being fired at you determines your lifespan, Japan is in a bad position. Most important is that China would not be seeking to claim or secure Japan, but rather to wipe its inhabitants off the map. Tha allows China options which the U.S. does not use. Tokyo would be leveled in a matter of days probably.

    What in the holy hell are you talking about? China has never been stable, and then WW2 comes along. Then the civil war that leads to Communist China. Stable! That was so stable! Either way It was not the US setting up colonies in Asia. Also, the only reason the Korean war even happened and is still going strong is because the Soviets did not want to play ball with the UN sponsored national elections in Korea. Also, what do you call streaming massive amounts of Chinese troops across the Yalu River and attacking the United States only to get off Scott-Free because of a weak president, Truman. North Korea should never have happened and it was in no way the fault of the United States. If not for US intervention the whole of Korea would be a communist mess and Japan would be in the same situation as Israel right now. Under siege surrounded by people just waiting to murder them.

    There was that time when we almost had a working nuke, before someone in the research team ratted it to the CIA. They came and shut the whole thing down.

    Donno about that, I'd have called the Qing Empire reletively stable before the U.S. and Europeans came in and destablized. Not to mention forcing isolationist Japan to open up, practically arming them on purpose and then getting punched in the face by them. The situation itself can largely be blamed on Foreigners. Post war, yes China was unstable but the presence of the U.S. hardly helped. Are you seriously claiming that China had no interests in not having the U.S. set up a base CLOSER to China than Japan already was? And bare in mind that the current situation in Asia and indeed all around the world is largely the work of the U.S. Remember that both Japan and South Korea have repeatedly requested that the U.S. GTFO of their affairs. Remember that no base in the world that belongs to the U.S. is really welcomed except Israel and parhaps Germany. North Korea wants to affect a change in politics, but I doubt that they want to murder their own siblings. Remember that this is like a prolonged civil war and there are families on both sides of the fireing line.

    Whoa you pointed out a time in Chinese history where there was stability. Oh wait, it was about 367-100 years ago. Please try again.

    The point still stands on the grounds that China would have maintained stability if not for the actions of foreigners. The fact is that the instability trend started because of others, not China itself.

    Al though I thank you for giving me a real source, that was compiled almost a decade ago (citing evidence from the late 90's) and wasn't entirely conclusive to that point.

    The spirit of military cooperation is still strong between the two nations and Skor recognized that without our help, they wouldn't be able to adequetely defend herself.

    http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/na ... 69912.html

    There isn't a plan to draw back troops in Korea, and for the most part Koreans like us.

    Fair enough, I can attest to the fact that stubborness is a facit of many Chinese. On the other hand, I cannot abide by the fact that people see it as fit that the U.S. or any other nation for that matter, should claim the unilateral responciblity for policing where they are not wanted. And it was more the groin than the ass.

    @pedro3131
    LOL! To be prefectly honest, I was hasty and neglected to check the timestamp. Thanks for checking. The spirit of military co-operation is strong yes, but there is a discord between the U.S. military and its relations with the people. And even with the U.S. in the region, Skor [never saw that abbriviation before now] cannot adequately defend its too-close-to-the-boarder capital which houses the majority of the population in and around it [its a very crampt country]. The fact that there is no plan to withdraw doesnt indicate much more than that the U.S. is not responding as the populus wants it to. The fact that the people LIKE the U.S. doesnt mean that they like having U.S. troops in the country. Take our 'allies' around the world, how many of those nations will willingly accept U.S. troops when there is no treat to counter. In the eyes of the Skor [damn you, now I'm using it too] citizens, the majority of the danger has passed and they now want nothing more then to unite their country and prosper.

    So they have a late Russian carrier, i bet it has migs on it. while were building super carriers.

    It seems that this carrier situation is kinda like the mass effect situation with the dreadnoughts. for everyone 1 human dreadnought there were 3 asari dreadnoughts, and 5 turian ones. this seems like for everyone 1 aircraft carrier in the world, we have to have double.

    Why do I get the impression that you didn't read the whole thread? It was already pointed out that the U.S. has more carriers and those are superior. It was also pointed out that the new carrier is likely to only be used as a training platform for when the new carriers come out. You underestimate the military industrial complex of China and don't appear to understand how the government works. In the U.S. they have to wait a long time for funding and approval. In China, they have a more streamlined approach and could churn out equivilant carriers to the U.S. in a shorter amount of time thanks to a less-red-tape-is-better burracracy and a large manufacturing base.
    BTW: Migs are like the F-series. Its a series of planes, not a single plane in particular. You can have a Mig more advanced than a F-35.
