really this isn't even made up by the church but by a guy named Dante Alighieri who was in Florence during the time of the political war between the whites and the blacks, and which he was kicked out and in exile he wrote this as a big old fuck you. orrignaly the catholic church rather disliked the poem but now there like well yeah its o.k (also it was the 1300s so they took there religion in there politics very sirously)

The idea of gluttony in that book is not preaching against fat people. The idea is that the reason you sinned was because of your gluttony, or lust, or anger, etc. Only 6-9 are actual sins.

LOL I'M GONNA CHANGE THE SUBJECT BECAUSE I WAS WRONG AND I KNOW IT!

No and no. It is fiction, and is treated as such by the Church.

the first ones are viewed as human desire and thus not sins, so your punished for not exercising control over your needs to have sex, eat, or be angry.

Why? And the book and it's subsequent parts are about justice, not punishment/reward.

Only inferno has punishment, the last two parts are pretty much about finding god and gaining enlightenment and the knowledge of the universe and some nice Beatrice on the side if you know what i mean.

No I wasn't, are you denying as a christian that the old testament is the word of god? If the old testament and the new testament are both from god (an all knowing being) then you HAVE to assume that they are both correct. If they are contradictory then an all knowing being must have changed his mind which doesn't make any sense.

Oh, and try not to be that childish.

Neither is the word of God. They have both been translated from their original versions, so even if they WERE written "by God" it is a slightly different wording now. In fact, throughout history bad translations have been the bane of the Bible.

Personally, I don't think they're from god so if 1500 translations later in a crazy sect of Christianity shit got a little weird then I'd think they still are equally as crazy.

This doesn't change the fact that most Christians I've met believe the bible to be the word of god .

You said that Christians believed something that they very obviously do not. And when I pointed it out you insulted a different belief without any actual argument.

I don't care for scripture or dogma but for the sake of those that do I'll respond to your babbling. Jesus rather explicitly states that His coming has rendered the old rites and rituals of Judaism unnecessary or obsolete. And again, any commandments or laws of the Old Testament are overridden by the commandment that Jesus Himself gave.

Your failure to understand one of the most simple concepts in Christianity only makes your 'rebellious' anti-theism more annoying.

Yes, clearly I'm the one being childish.

    EDIT:
If that's the basis for your argument then it makes no sense to claim that "Christians think that if a woman is raped, she should be forced to marry her rapist," as clearly the majority does not.

    Kalali.

    1. If people totally ignore scripture while claiming they believe in it that doesn't mean we should ALL totally ignore their scripture because they're just such free spirits.

    2. Okay, so again the great changing of god's mind. The all powerful and all knowing being decided to let humanity sit for awhile before sending in Jesus (which is a curious choice for an all powerful being in the first place) to change up all the incredibly archaic rules that god laid down in the first place? There is no flaw in your logic, why couldn't I see?

    3.
I am well aware of jesus changing up the rules, it doesn't make it any less contradictory and if I were to believe in god I'd say this is the point where people started changing shit up for kicks.

    4. Yes,
Sounds like the argument of a baby.

    5. Again , if people completely ignore their own scripture and generally follow pretty much none of the rules their god clearly laid down yet still claim to be Christians then I think that's pretty outrageous.

LampRevolt, to be religious you do not have to follow every single rule of The Bible and have the ability to recite any chapter at any moment when questioned.

I'm pretty sure if we followed every word of the bible, life would be way diffrent.

And its very rare when people can recite any chapter at any second.

Sounds pretty fuckin retarded to do otherwise if you truly believe that particular god exists.
