Partially. While I am not quite so extreme as Che, a religious figure as the head of a country is ALWAYS a bad thing. The Dalai Lama also has some questionable beliefs, mostly concerning economics and human trafficking. I honestly can't claim to be educated enough on the issue to really claim who is best for Tibet though.

Mao rode a horse on the long march... He was not fucking carried you idiots...

Also many people who were on the long march have said that Mao showed great compassion even in life and death situations they had to face.... The red army never even took anything from ANY village they passed by nor did they accept any gifts from them. And Mao ate the exact rations everyone else did.... Morale was what made the long march a victory... And there would have been no fucking morale if the leader was being carried on a fucking chair. Your stupidity is just outstanding. This is why freedom of speech should be a privlage not a right.

A privilege granted by who and to who? By the government to people who swallow official propaganda whole? My friend, I support wholeheartedly your right to spread your dangerous and anti-individualistic ideals. I support that right because I, unlike yourself, can trust that my ideas will stand up to scrutiny.

Exactly. Your IDEALS. Never has there been a Statless Capitalist society other than Somalia and never will there be a stateless capitalist society. And whats hat? Oh yeah Socialism was pretty god damn effective for the first two leaders of the CCCP, first leader of the Peoples Republic of China, Vietnam, Laos, Cuba, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. And even so well that the American coup in Venezuala to oust the democratically elected president could not stop the people of Venezuala from ousting the coup and bringing back Chavez.

I sure as hell do not respect your opinions, your political belifes or your right to free speech, so don't pretend to be the good guy and say you respect mine....

Sorry to pick out one thing but,
Somalia was Socialist when it fell into chaos.

It was then divided up into small turfs by the warlords of the different areas.
While there are no taxes or regulations the turfs are so small that you have to pay a million import taxes to get a good from one end of the country to the other.

The weirdest thing is though, even after the complete collapse of society the country is STILL has better living standards than a few(like 2) others.

The only reason they're better than those two countries is because no one has gone on a genocide spree yet. At least (most) people aren't starving in the streets like Ethiopia.

The whole problem too is that Somalia has a PERFECT positioning in Africa for piracy. It would be like South Africa pirates or Madagascar pirates or something. I mean, trade wise it's a very important area..

It was Socialist in the same way that Italy is Capitalist. Sure they are Capitalist, but not entirly.

It wasn't destroyed by America. Sure America flipped out because that region was completly vital for the Red Sea/Indian Ocean/Eastern Coast of Africa, but no one would destroy the entire nation.

I could see the CIA attempting a coup in Somalia, as they've done it everywhere else, I can't see them destroying the entire nation, as they've done it no where else. Somalia died out because it was incredibly poorly run, poor from the start, and because the strong, local warlords overpowered the government in many local places. It was a perfect situation for collapse.

The worst already came. Foreign investers are so scared they wont risk exploiting the natural resources of the nation, and if a Warlord decides to go commit genocide there's 50 other Warlords who disagree and stop him.

I suspect there could be a massive total war to decide who runs Somalia later though.

Che, you are a prime example of why I am incredibly happy Communism is a dying ideology. It can only exist in a state of oppression under the totalitarian rule of someone who, like you, believes they have the right to control the words and minds of others.

Trust me, I don't respect your ideals. I don't respect your beliefs. But I do respect that you have certain rights that I may not take away from you. One of those rights is freedom of speech. As I said before, your words do not scare me because I have faith that people are reasonable enough to see the flaws inherent in your position. Your only argument is coercion.

I don't have to "pretend" to be the good guy in this debate. I am. I am in favor of the protection of inalienable rights, and you are opposed because they make you afraid. They scare you because you know that your ideas do not stand on their own merits. You are an enemy of freedom, of reason, of peace, and of every human being ever to have had an independent thought.

Also, for the record, and I have stated this before, I do not believe America should be involved in other people's fights. I'm the farthest thing from an imperialist, and I believe that very few free societies that are not born by conscious choice of the people to rebel against their oppressors have any chance to survive. I have also never made an argument for a "stateless" society. Just a society with minimal government. Please, pay attention.

I feel like no one in this thread has even the most basic understanding of Somali history.... The UN (it was a UN mission not an American one) sent a humanitarian mission to prevent mass starvation from the famine that was exacerbated a preexisting civil war. The only peaceful time period in Somalia in the last 40 years was when we the UN maintained a large peacekeeping force there. After we pulled the majority of our forces out, we had the whole black hawk down incident and completely withdrew. That incident forever shaped the way we enact foreign policy, and have subsequently let numerous humanitarian crises go untouched out of fear of another Black Hawk down style incident.
