Let's see, we have the ability to act unilaterally on the global stage and no one has the moxie to tell us no. Other so called powerful states spoke out against us invading Iraq, and what did we do? Invade the crap out of it because we could. We're at the forefront of every major disaster relief effort. Almost every international organization looks to us for funding and credibility. The world financial market runs through us, half of the global economy runs off of the dollar. There isn't really a thing we could do that can't do on the international and global stage.

By any definition of the term, we are a super power.

We had this question on my first IR exam, and I think the prof told us afterwords that only like one kid answered no, and he only got a C.

GDP growth isn't akin to economic power. China has been clipping along at a 10% growth rate for like a decade and were still 3 times larger then them, and ages per capita

Yeah sure, but that does not reflect to over all economy. Your economy doubles sense 1980's but, average US citizen wages went flat causing them to loose 400$ every year in comparison to 1980's

No, we're still a Superpower. We'll always be a Superpower.
We just wont be the #1 Superpower anymore. China will.

I blaim our incompetent presidency (Bush and Obama), then Obama's careless use of what little money we have.
I also blaim the Democrats and Republicans both being short-sighted retards.
Then I blaim the fact that China has a billion people who can work, more than 3x as many as America has. China's GDP will shoot WAY above the American one.

It kinda depends on your definition of a superpower... Militarily the US is still the most powerful country on earth, enoconomically... well we all know the anwser to that. Also i would like to adress a common misconception about the CHinese economy. Many people think that China has a powerful economy because they are smarter or more hard working, when really the only reason that China's economy is so powerful is because their citizens are willing to work a 12 hour wor day 6 days a week for 50 cents (equivalent) an hour.

Not to mention there's a billion of the fuckers working that way.
That means that if they just "produced" as much as us (per person) they'd have 3x more than us.

Solution: We need to make more babies!

Or we could bring the industry back and stop making shitty products that no one wants to buy.

That's very possible. Especially since India is a fully functioning Democracy and China is an iron-fist dictatorship and a bunch of their people either want to scede (Tibet) or want a Revolution/Massive Reform.

The problem is that if we want the industry back we have to work for Peanutshells like the Chinese.

And we may be able to do it, we'd use First Generation immigrants from places like Mexico. They'll demand only a little more than the Chinese, but because the products wouldn't need to fly across the world we could probably make it work. However our less-than-open-door policy and the fact that we have a minimum wage prevents us from doing that.

They already conquered Tibet, they claim Mongolia, they've invaded Vietnam just in the 80s, and they've got North Korea by the balls.

They probably threaten Central Asia too, but that's just steppe, not to mention the massive desert between it and China.
