The NATO alliance had an original mission as to Defend Western Europe from the Soviet threat. But now, about 20 years later from the disbanding of the Warsaw Pact and the knowledge that there never really was a Soviet threat, we find ourselves asking. Why is NATO still around? Most of the member nations of NATO have unsubstantial armed forces and are in no way capable of a military alliance. Also, the Russian Federation has decreased its armed forces to that of a self-defense force and can only inter-fer in regional ( all be that region to be half the Earth) debates. On the other side though, We have the United States continuing to expand its military and military power. NATO is now heavily reliant on the US and the US has basically become the World Central Police. FUTURE OF NATO: SPACE TRAVEL: I believe the worlds global powers should united to find life on other worlds or even find some bacteria on a near planet. I believe that if we found out that there is life out there besides us, then we will all finally realize that we are all humans and that we should explore instead of destroying ourselves. Once this happens, within 1,000 years, the Earth will have colonies across our region of the Galaxy and we will become the Undisputed Ruler of the Milky Way! We will find other life, enslave them and take their resources!!!!
Do you have any idea how stupid this prospect sounds? It's not the finding of extraterrestrial life. It's not the concept of a united human race. It's the idea of a "Galactic Empire" In the Star Wars universe, they have hyperdrives. In Mass Effect, they have Mass Relays. In the real world, there are no hyperdrives and Mass Relays. We are entirely limited to practical physics. Let's put it in perspective. Our solar system is 4.2 light years in diameter. That means if you traveled near the speed of light, you would spend almost four and a half years going from one end to the other. The Milky Way Galaxy is about 100,000 light years across. That means if you started in a straight path without stopping for any reason, or for any extended period of time (also assuming you're still planning to travel at near the speed of light), your 1200 times great grandson may get to see the far side of our galaxy. But here's the real kicker. Disregard most of our galaxy. Let's focus on just this arm of the spiral, the one our sun and solar system resides on. On this arm alone, there are 200 billion, with a B, stars. Let's say that each star averages about 5 satellites. Do the math, and you have about one trillion orbiting bodies. You propose that over the thousand years, we search one trillion orbiting bodies? That's like telling a child to count every grain of sand on a beach. Then on the rest of the beaches everywhere. Then all of the sand beneath the ocean. And he has until lunch to get it done. Oh, and there's a bullet racing towards his head as he starts. Although, the sand thing is probably a little more realistic to expect.
I really hope this is a joke. Thankfully with the name Barrack H. Obama I don't think I will have to apologize for another stupid Republican.
starting a new thread for a new RP about a Future Earth.... around the year 2050-2100 It will be up soon
As bright as he was, he always romanticized the cosmic future of humanity. Since, you know, there is no real cosmic future for humanity.
Chives, it is my duty to tell you that that person just doubled posted and as a mod it is your duty to stop him.
