I don't see how a general in the Civil War could be better than other military masterminds, otherwise I'll jump in and say that Takeda Shingen and Oda Nobunaga were one of the best as well.

I doubt a chocolate junkie who can't function without his puffs will beat a respectable and decorated captain.

I can't see how you cannnot put Napoleon and Frederick the Great, or Alexander, but put up Trajan and Aetius not to mention yourself.

Alexander the Great is overated. He was still at least the 3rd greatest general of all time.
Come on, William the Conquerer? Admiral Yomimoto? Robert E. Lee?

Aparently destroying the Persian Empire and conquering Asia is nothing when in the massive comparison of winning the Battle of Hastings on pure luck of a stray arrow. Pssshhh, Napoleon? I mean, Pearl Habor working on pure incompetence on the American side (and STILL not working) is so amazing. Austerlitz ain't got nothing on that.

And Lee was decent, but his success was from the Union's failure to get any good generals. Even Grant wasn't that great.

Oh yeah, a guy who conquers almost all of the known world, conquering one of the most powerfull empires that ever existed is nothing compared to... wait, yeah that's what I thought, you didn't even put any generals worthy of discussion.

Alexander is by far one of the best all time, taking lands that had been ruled by the same empires/dynasties/families for hundreds of years, and then stopping at India to show respect of the Indian who had a river to his advantage.

Thats amazing how someone conquered the same amount of land as all of Europe.

Nice way to put order. =D

Anyway, Crusher just said what Alexander basically did, without worshiping him as a god.

Don't forget though that Genghis started with almost nothing, he didn't have Mongolia united when he started his conquests, Philip did that for Alexander, plus they would of course have a lot of plains and steppes, because those types ot terrain favors cavalry tactics.

Lmao, Alexander didn't slaughter innocent civilians? I'm also getting tired of people talking of Alexander like he was the Superman of the Antiquity period, Alexander was partically harsh to cities like Tyre where he slaughtered 2,000 people of the populace, and other Arab cities as well.

    So what?

Genghis Khan was way more baddass than he was, he and the mongols destroyed entire cities, raped civilians and pillaged the cities. They destroyed the world basically, Alexander pillaged, but at least he brought Greek culture to the same people he conquered.

He conquered a weak Egypt and a weak Persia. and the Indians and proto-romans did alot of damage against him, had he not died he would have got defeated and killed by one of the two.

I wish i had the opportunity to watch Dan carlin's video on Alexander the Great being like Adolf Hitler

His empire was very strong at the time, he only lost at India because his troops were already very exausted from the campaign, as for the Etruscans, they were pillaged very easily by the gallic tribes, so I wouldn't say they were in any better postition as Egypt.
