If you know you are a good general greed will fill you, and you will continue to conquer.

But the Carthaginians didnt fight like that. Rome would have only sued for peace on the grounds that they keep their independence and stuff. Otherwise, they would have continued the war like they did, and end up defeating Hannibal.

He couldnt do it without the Carthaginians themselves allowing it. He wanted to bring Barcid Spain closer to Carthage, which he succeeded in doing. He already allied with Phillip solely on only defending each other against ROme. Where else could he conquer? He only had 40,000 men at his disposal.

Counsels tend to like good generals. Would you argue? How about Egypt, Seleucid, Greece is still open (Phillip was a shit ally), Spanish tribes, etc.

The Barcids had many enemies as well as allies. the one thing they had going for them is the popular assembly idolized them. And again, the hellenistic and phoenician states never had any intention in wars to complete destroy their enemies as political entities. Carthage was only worried about protecting its trading centers and regaining sicily and sardinia, again, solely for maintaining their trading domination. The only thing Hannibal, and Carthage in general, wanted, was to get revenge on ROme, mainly, not for the first Punic War, but for the seizure of sicily that expcicitly violated the treaty that ended the first punic war in every way possible. To top it off, the Romans added injury to insult by adding 1,000 extra talents that were to be payed in the indemnity Carthage owed to ROme. Carthage would never vote for a war against the Seleucid or Ptolemaic kingdoms, and Phillip, despite being a shit ally, was still an ally.

Hannibal wasn't well liked by the oligarchy back in Carthage and so if Hannibal did win the Punic War, I imagine his next opponent would be Carthaginians

Yeah but the popular assembly, which kinda had the last say in most things, idolized the Barcids. They were the reason the Barcids got so powerful in the first place.

True but that didn't stop the Oligarchy from running Hannibal out Carthage in real history.

That was because they really had no choice. It was either that or Rome was gonna press on and siege Carthage itself again.
