I thought this needed its own topic since it doesn't really belong in the Vietnam War topic. Feel free to discuss anything related to the topic and don't go off topic too much.

What the fuck is healthcare? Must be one of your local customs as we don't have any of it in America.

I work hard and pay for health care. If I get sick or injured I can go to the doctor without fear of bankruptcy...

Same here. Thing about universal healthcare is that it's super fucking expensive. Expanding our bloated government to control such a huge portion of our economy, and one of the most expensive at that, is a bad idea. Allowing for very limited near-universal coverage is reasonable, however.

I think expensive universal healthcare fits well with our current financial strategies.

Canada also has just over 1/10 of America's population, and has much higher taxes.

1/10th population doesn't matter with only about 1/30th of the US debt.

Foriegn debt doesn't really trickle down to the individual consumer. Also, the US is significantly richer..

The US debt is huge to be sure, but not as bad as other countries

Source: CIA world factbook... Just type debt as a percentage of GDP into google

Health care can be funded directly by taxing people (Like in social security I gues) I think about it this way: You take a loan from bank of 20 000. Then you start paying it back 100 $/month. All good? Same thing here. You pay your 100$/month and when you need it you get 20 000$ operation for free.

Also you would help less wealthy. 50 000 000 americans do not have health insuranse and 23 000 are dying bechose of that each year. According to Documentary "Sicko" about american healthcare.

Well do you have people paying more who use it more? Say someone lives a healthy lifestyle, rarely needs to go to the doctor and never has to have any costly procedures... Should he be paying the same as a habitual chain smoker who eats nothing but Macdonalds, and then has major cardiovascular and respiratory problems throughout their mid and late adulthood?

The US dollar is backed by gold which what I hear the US has none of so what do they repay their debt with.

The US dollar hasn't been backed by gold since the 30s..... In gold reserves the US has almost as much as the next three highest countries combined....
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_reserve

And no one pays back debts in gold so I don't really see how that's relevant.... Or really the more basic question of what does this have to do with healthcare?

To be fair, many influential economists have argued that the gold standard was part of what held us in the depression for so long...

I would argue so, yes. When people get old, no matter how healthy life they have been having they will evenetualy need hospital. And who puts walue on their health anyway? I cant imagine being in surgery and if my investemets gos down all of the sudden doctor stops opetraing and says "Yep this guy cant pay for this, lets find some one who can" And here is teh other issue: Not everyone can afford it. Would you let people die bichose of that? I sure ashell wouldnt.

In here we have to pay extra 30€ each year once to get acces to our health care witch is partialy free. I would mix this with British model: Everyone who is working adult (Anyone between ages 16-60) has to pay this fee, and to get pills 15€ despite quantity. To Kids and elder service would be free.

Would be interesting to watch and get some perspective?

For the most part, universal healthcare is a bad idea. It sounds good initially, but once u understand it, it kinda sucks. We should keep with our current system of healthcare

Canada is a example of how universal healthcare works.
