if I may take the turn so generously given to me by maddog, this one seems easy to me, let's see how y'all deal with it.

name that airship, and tell everyone why it's special.

USS Macon, one of 4 rigid airship commissioned during the inter-war period.

Most notable being that it found the USS Houston (who was carrying the President Roosevelt on a trip back from Hawaii) and dropped some newspapers on it, that only 2 people died during it's crash (both unnecessary with one bailing to soon and another swimming back to get personal stuff) and together with it's sister (the USS Akron) are the world record holders for Helium-filled ships.

It's currently registered in the National Register of Historic Places and is closed to the public because it's too deep.

I'll give you it, I was looking for the fact that it contained hangars within the balloon. I knew it would be an easy one. Anyway, looks like you're up maddog

I guess you could do it with any rifle, but most commonly they did it with this.

    Hmmm...

was it special because of its magazine, which allowed the quickest ROF of its time?

Yup. You are correct, your turn.
I know that it's technically not exclusive to the Lee-Enfield, but most likely a British Infantrymen would've done it with this and would rather have shopped off his leg then part with it.

time period, which war, what battle, perhaps who painted it, and if you can identify the troops that would be cool. if you want clues just ask.
